To shed or not to shed....that is the question

If you put the Sheltie hair out in the spring in your garden or yard, the birds will love you. They use it in their nests. Imagine what a nice, soft bed it must make for all those baby birds.

Years ago, I actually saw someone selling Sheltie fur on ebay. No **** !!

Anybody know any weavers or spinners!? Cashmere comes from goat hair doesn't it? I bet a sweater made from Sheltie hair has to be softer than an ol' stinky goat!

There is a lady here in Winnipeg that collects dog hair and yes, she makes it into yarn and then knits mitts and scarfs out of it for sale! So, there is a market out there....

Well then, let's rethink this...should we all save our shedded Sheltie hair and get rich????:lol::lol: Or just put a down payment on our vet bills....

I did start saving Callie's hair from her brushings a while back. I found this book online while checking out all the available sheltie books. It's called "Better a sweater from a dog you know and love than from a sheep you'll never meet- Knitting with dog hair" It tells you how to do everything though I'd rather send the fur out to one of the online companies that spin it for you. :smile2: course, I still need to learn how to knit. :wink2:

Jake is 9 months and doesnt really shed, although I do get a cotton wool balls worth out when I brush him, but I was told that males tend to keep their coat in until grooming, whereas females drop it anyway.

My Inuit moults all year round, badly, always furballs floating, I got a carrier bags worth out of him with the Furminator the other day, by all rights he should be bald I dont know how that dog has any fur

And I thought I was joking!

I have been keeping Ruckus for for over a year now. I want to send it off and make a whole blanket out of it. I am sure it will take years, dispite his heavy shedding.
