Trick Challenge #3 Atischoo!!

We started today, Merlin has a plain hanky and Cadbury a red one.

Merlin.
Started by getting him to fetch and bring me the hanky, he is good at this anyway, so I quickly moved on to getting him to pull it from my pocket and bring it to me. He wasn't sure at first about tugging it, so I had to encourage him by shaking it.

Cadbury.
Started by clicking when he looked at the hanky, Cadbury wasn't sure what the click was for so started marching instead. Finally got him to fetch the hanky and bring it to me, but bring then turned into throwing the hanky at me. He can throw far!

LOLLL
Oh dear Cadbury you are a hoot.
Merlin of course is prim and proper and not too sure whether he should be allowed to tug on a kerchief!

How is this trick coming you guys ?? We are going absolutely no where with it. Sally has always pulled tissues from my pocket, so I wanted to get her to pull a hanky out of a tissue box- thought it would be cute, without her actually pulling tissues out due to shread factor. Well , she just doesn't have a clue as to what i want her to do. She doesn't want to even pick up the hanky off the floor ?? We have no chewing on stuff or destructive behavior with her right now and i don't want to start any so I'm not sure what we will come up with... she never gets in the trash or even gets into her "toy basket" and i like it that way.:confused2:

if you have hand touch behavior you can place hanky in your hand and get your pup to touch? then put it on the table etc. just like targeting...
another thing is to tug on hanky?

Will try this SheltiChe, however ,she doesn't seem interested in the hanky at all. She gives it a sniff when i ask her to touch, but that's about it. Much more interest if i use a tissue though.

she does not see value in the behavior? object? Need better or more treats?
Just throwing out ideas...

Sounds like you need to build value in the hanky! Try tugging with it, rewarding for every nose touch or even eye glance at the hanky. Give her a nice big reward even if she just sniffs it. If you repeat this, she will find the hanky more interesting and would want to interact with it more!

Any progress anyone ?:hide Haven't been working on it...but do practice jumping through my arms and marching...

Ok, well I watched Honey the great dane do this trick and got inspired, so Sally and I worked on the trick. I used tissues instead of a hanky and she pulled it out of the box and handed it to me 3 times. This might be a doable trick for us...clearly i have no life.:dead:

Sorry to be so late responding to this thread. We have had another :dead: week, too much stress including my brother being taken off to hospital with his head cut open.

So how did you all get on? Are you happy to add results to this thread as creating a separate thread seems a little confusing?

I'll try and get on a vid soon.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Seems like you all are having a rough patch. Hope it wasn't too serious. Sally pulls a tissue out of the box and hands it to me when I pretend to sneeze and say tissue...I do not know how to post vids on here...we actually go through a whole little routine every evening when she takes thyroid meds. She does down/wait with a treat on her paw, then rolls over-with my help, she just flops around if I don't help her a little. Then she waves, then jumps through my arms a few times, then marches, then the tissue trick. The whole time the cat is watching and will beg on her hind legs for a treat that she has to take from my hand-sometimes she wants me to put it on the ground for her to take but I won't, so now she has learned to beg.
