Tully's not doing well

Left her at the referral hospital for scans. The IMS said it is likely one of 3 things - 1. ulceration; 2. inflammation of another organ (esp gallbladder); 3. cancer.

She's been eating dirt for some months and it has been worsening. I thought it was nausea (because Deska did it when he was sick) but the general vets kept saying it was likely nutrient deficiency. Now her specialist says eating dirt or leaves or bark, for a dog that doesn't usually have pica, is the equivalent of us eating a dry biscuit when we're sick. She's trying to line her stomach. Wish I had told the IMS months ago! He said it's a good indication of ulceration in her gut. Question is whether the ulceration has now caused cancer - exactly what happened to Deska.

He is hoping I can still bring her home this afternoon. Can't lose my cheeky monkey - she needs to train up the baby crocodile (aka Kismet).

The latest news is her intestines are thickened and severely inflamed as is her bowel so they are putting her on a drip and she'll stay overnight. Internal medicine specialist couldn't see any suspicious growths - of course that doesn't say much because Deska's intestinal cancer didn't show up on an ultrasound either.

Tully also has an infected gallbladder. So when she recovers we need to get her gallbladder out. IMS didn't think it as at the point it could burst from a mucocele, although there is one there. But the immediate concern is the infection moving into her liver. Poor girl, 13 yrs old and getting a gallbladder out.

I'm going down at 6pm with some food for her. And reminded IMS to put a note on her cage to say NO chicken.

Just saw Tully. She's confused and very low. I know it's not from just being in the ER - she has spent weeks there over the last 2 years so knows the place well.

I tried to get her to eat but she took it from my hand and then dropped it. I worry that she is associating the new food with being sick as she looked interested in eating. The only thing she ate was a couple of cornflakes and something off the floor. Needless to say, I then drove around looking for a supermarket to buy her some cornflakes. I don't know if she will be home tomorrow, I've not seen her this bad since she spent a week there last year.

All is quiet here, even the puppy is being quiet. I've got one cat (on a diet) giving me the death stare next to her bowl, but otherwise everyone is laying low. It will be quiet tonight without my little red panda on the bed.

Poor Tully! This is so heartbreaking. Surgery at 13 is scary enough... her not eating is even more so as she would need her strength for the surgery. Your description of her being your little red panda made me smile! I know all of you are down with your pack not being complete.
Can the vet try an appetite stimulant for her? I used it with Mr Chance and it did help. Virtual hugs! Send more prayers to you and sweet Tully!
