Tully's not doing well

What good news about Tully and Kismet improving! FWIW, I have three on Ursidiol. Barkley was on it too, and it did seem to help reduce his sludge. It didn't work for Checkers or Lacey, and Ruffles is on it and stable at the moment. Lacey's GB was so bad when they removed it that the surgeon told me she should stay on it for life. It's certainly worth trying. Fortunately, it's not one of those expensive meds.

I got it compounded last time so pretty sure it cost about $100 a month. But I'm going to have to look into a cheaper option because with all the other meds it gets expensive. At least I know she was okay with the Ursodiol last time. The Denamarin will be a risk as now quite a few people told me their dog did not tolerate it.

Yes, it is hard to think too far in the future and one day at a time certainly helps to cope with our seniors issues so it does not overwhelm us.

I certainly feel for you, Caro! When growing up none of these high priced medicines or proactive ultrasounds nor surgical interventions were used. Today we have so many options... yes, some with a high price few can afford. Logan was on a cocktail of meds for the last two years. One pill alone was $140. So again, I understand and feel your pain!

Hang in there! Waking up to that sweet Tully face is worth it! Virtual hugs to you both!

Wow, $140 - hope it lasted a while.

Atm Tully's on a cocktail - the steroids and metronidazole and Losec aren't too bad, sucralfate I already had some (I actually got my GP to prescribe for me so I could get the subsidised price). Atm she also gets daily Zofran ($12 a tablet), Cerenia every second day ($20 a tablet). Just ordered the Ursodiol - $160 for half dose for a month. Haven't even looked at the Denamarin yet. She's my little monkey and I love her, but sheesh she's costing me a bit. Embarrassingly my payment got rejected at the vet today - always running out of cash for her vet bills. Thank god I get some of it back from insurance eventually.

I don't know why Cerenia is so bloody expensive! It's the same here. Barkley was on it daily and I finally found a mail pharmacy where it can be ordered somewhat cheaper. I also found if I got the larger mg pills and cut them in half I could get two doses instead of one per pill. Shop around, if you have any mail pharmacies you can often find better prices if your vet will prescribe for you.

Anything I get from the US needs to be doubled for exchange then add another $40 for postage. I did find an online pharmacy in NSW that does 100ml suspension of 60mg/ml for $150 plus postage. Tully's was 30ml suspension of 50mg/ml so that's quite a difference, basically twice the amount for the same price. Now I'll have to get a script - which will mean another consult fee. Bugger.

Anyway, starting on the new diet tonight, doesn't look that appertising, but she'll be happy with the roo meat. I have to order some BalanceIT supplements from the US.

That's expensive to buy things from the US Caro, but then we pay a lot more as well (our dollar is around.73 US). Heck, when our dollar was at par we still paid more. Of course when the borders were open you could drive down but even then your paying the exchange rate, plus gas plus hotel so your not saving anything (we need to stay for minimum of 48 hours in order to be able to get most duty free amount).

Well the new diet was an absolute disaster.
It was developed by a vet nutritionist and is basically millet and kangaroo with oils and supplements. Gave it to her for dinner and supper and she was sick overnight and left a labrador sized pile of sloppy millet on the grass (sorry about putting that revolting image in your head!). So she's back on her mummy-made diet and doing better. Absolutely exhausted and a little confused today, but that may be from the nausea.

Started her on Ursodiol today - really hope that helps, I'm so anxious about her gallbladder. I got an appointment with her specialist next week so I'll ask when he expects the gallbladder to come out.

We had a meet up with the other Sheltie puppies on the weekend and I took Tully with me for an outing. Chatting with two old Sheltie friends I realised that Tully has outlasted the original group - Deska, Archie and Tilly all died of cancer at younger ages. Tully's a tough old bird but has been through so much in the last year. I'm scared whether she'll survive the gallbladder removal, but she definitely won't survive if it bursts.
