Update on pups neuro issues

Hopefully you can find improvements. Wow I don't know what to say, I am not familiar with this at all. Prayers and positive thoughts are on their way.

My poor boy, Theo, is having an awful episode. We went to bed around 10 o'clock but stayed awake until around 2:00 a.m. We woke the dogs up to take them out one last time and Theo was wobbly and disoriented. He was pretty bad so we laid down with him and then he started crying so we turned light on/sat up and he began puking. He didn't have anything to puke so it didn't last long. Now he's up again, four hours later, and I have no idea what's wrong. He's crying, though. I tried putting a leash on him and taking him out to potty but he won't go. I let him walk around the yard, or attempt to, but no potty. This time he's not only wobbly but at times he has no upper body strength. It's really sad to see him as he was just literally tumbling right over. He can walk a little better but he walks almost sideways. He was walking to my across the room, from the middle of the room, but by the time he got to me he was completely pushed against the wall. Odd. He's had his ears checked a million times, but it kind of presents itself as a dog whose coordination is off due to ears. I've never had them cry before during an episode... not sure what's wrong with him but he won't let me sleep so I'm up holding him in my arms and typing this as he occasionally whimpers/cries. :(

I'm so sorry to hear about Theo. When Pixie had seizures she would turn her head sideways and walk that way too. I think it's part of the neurological issue that makes them do that. I wonder if he's crying because he's confused and doesn't like how he feels. I wish you could get some holistic help.

I wonder if it would be worth contacting the people who did Pixie's holistic treatment and medications for seizures. She took three: a relaxant, brain/nerve formula (drops) and a general supplement they make. It's Dr. Arnold Goldstein who actually pioneered this bionutritional work and the analysis that they do before they prescribe. I'm pretty sure he consults by phone. Here's the link. They might be able to refer you to someone near you too.

Oh, thank you for sharing that information! I will be looking into that and sending an email. They're episodes do resesemble seizures but much longer as they are more unstable and longer length... as of 10 hrs later he can walk better on feet but he can't hold his head up very well yet. I believe, he was crying bc he had to potty but cldnt due to lack of coordination. That is the first that's happened... He finally got enoigh balance back and was able to.eliminate himself and he hasn't cried since. Worst thimg is during these episodes they get so sick and nauseated they literally dont sleep for hours straight....he is resting now tho as its slowly dying down......

I did check out the website again, Mary, and I see that they do consult with you and/or your vet by phone or email. There's a phone number on the site that you can call for information. They don't expect to see your dog in person so it might work out well for you. I can't say enough about how their holistic meds helped cure my Pixie.

I'm glad Theo's doing better, hope it continues. Please let us know how you do.

Mary I am so sorry to hear of Theo's bad night. You are such a good Mommy.

I worked in a hospital for a long while and dealt with traumatic brain injured people. One thing that a lot of patients had in common was that they would cry a lot and whimper. I asked one of the doctor's why they would cry and he told me that it was symptomatic of the brain injury.

I don't know if this helps and I am not suggesting that your pups are brain injured. Just a little limited information.

Good luck Mary, we are pulling for you and your puppies.

Kate

Awww, thank you, Denise. I think we all feel that if we can help someone else through the experiences we've had and what we've learned, then it's a win/win. I know sometimes it comes across like "please do it MY way!" but all we really want is for every Sheltie here to be healthy, happy and loved.

I know every Sheltie on this Forum is loved. I hope we can help with the rest! Prayers tonight for little Theo, his family, and a cure.
