Update on pups neuro issues

I feel so bad for you. This is just a thought because my friend went through something just a couple a weeks ago with her dog.

The vet and friend finally found out through MRIs that her dog was not having seizures but small strokes. Her dog would have one then come out of if it. Just wondering if this could be similar.

I so dislike learning through others bad experiences, Mary hopefully your pups make progress. Very heart wrenching. Your a wonderful mom and caretaker.

Thanks, everyone, for your words of concern and wisdom. We thank each and everyone of you very much! My last post said he was getting better, but we weren't right. He got his balance back on his feet, but his head was still very unstable. Around 3pm, 12 hours into the episode, it seemed better so I fed him his food for the day (he usually eats around 11 so I knew he was hungry) and he did eat it but sadly he was too nauseated to keep it down and vomited it all back up within 15 minutes or so. He didn't really come back to normal at all yesterday. Towards the evening, he wasn't wobbly or disoriented but poor baby was so exhausted! They usually sleep it off during the night, but since his happened during the night, he wasn't able to. We tried putting him in his crate for rest but he cried and cried so I let him out and he laid next to me most of the night. We woke up today just perfect!! Happy, smiling so much! Ate a big meal and not sick. He's giving kisses out like crazy. It's so nice to have my boy.

The bug spray man is supposed to come tomorrow but I'm canceling it for a while as he had a minor episode last time they came. Not risking it!

Let's hope he doesn't have another one for a long time. He hasn't had one this bad since March of last year... which was his first one.

Bug Spray Man

Mary, these three words just leaped out at me from the page, 'bug spray man'.

Pest control sprays have a residual nature, designed to stay around for a long time. Could your little ones be victims of these sprays???

Not wanting to be fatalistic here but I had to say something.

No, sadly, they started having these spells long before a bug man came into the picture. We've moved three times and went for a long, long time without any pest control. The black widows are too much here so we decided two months ago to have them spray. We don't have them do inside anymore, minus windows, since Theo reacted. His flea medicine has caused spells to come on, too. He's very sensitive like that. Whereas Lily isn't like that as much and her spells are brought on by stress.

Insect Control

Hey Mary,

I have two cents worth of info for you. Diatomaceous Earth. I have spoken of this before as a natural pest, spider, insect control

We use this, often, outside and inside. It is safe, it is effective, has killed many a wolf spider here for us. If you key in Diatomaceous Earth on the internet, you can read for yourself just how good it really is to use instead of Bug Men. (In the past I have used them myself, the bug men.)

When I lived in New Mexico, we had too many black widow spiders and they are treacherous and a real problem, I know. I wish I had known about DE then.

Take it from me, this stuff works and works well. You can get it from Feed supply stores, or Greenhouses, etc. You only want to buy FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth. They sell some for POOLS labeled Pool Grade, you don't want Pool Grade.

WolfCreekRanch has a great write up for DE. But you don't have to buy from them. They are helpful though.

Best,
Kate

Sooo I have literally a 50lb bag of this stuff! I haven't found a good way to disburse it. Any tips on how you do it? It's just literally a giant brown bag I got locally, and yes, it's not the pool grade. I actually feed it to my gang, but haven't used it as a pesticides...please share advice on how to lay it out as I did put it all around my yard but I felt like it just all blew away! I used to put it on my foster kitties who are too young for flea treatment and boy did it work! It didn't work on the dogs in the middle of TX summer it worked enough to get them through the summer only needing one dose in May.

DE

Great! In the house, sprinkle it around where the spiders come in and where they don't as preventative. I put it all around the base boards and window sills. Have found the "bodies" of many a spider, beetle etc.

Now "Voyager" (my better half ) will field the outside questions better than I am able to do. He does outside spreading with me in the warmer months and has his own technique that he follows while I randomly just spread it around. I do caution to let the DE settle in before the doggies go out. It isn't harmful but if they or you catch a whiff, it could cause an irritation just like any powder.

Diatomaceous Earth Outside

Hello, Mary.

Diatomaceous Earth can be best applied outside with a broadcast spreader if it isn't windy. (One of those hand-held crankers that spins the stuff out like the salt-spreader on the back of a snowplow truck). If it is windy, you can use a drop spreader (One of those you can walk behind to fertilize your lawn; the wheels turn a bar inside the hopper and it drops the stuff out of the bottom in straight lines.). DE also works like lime as it's absorbed into the soil. Earthworms love the stuff, but be prepared to mow your grass a little more often.
I hope this helps.

Ahhh THANKS SO MUCH!! I actually cancelled the bug man as I didn't want to risk it and trigger an episode. Sadly, no refund so I'm out $200 but it's worth it to not have my boy get sick. I'm going to order something to sift it with and probably put that out soon. I'll let you know how it works... I've read fabulous things about it and was very excited to try it. I just got overwhelmed by the huge bag and didn't know what to do with it really lol. I have heard it's great for humans too and if you ingest it over time you'll have more energy and be more alert! Have you tried it?
