I follow kashrut-so my pups by default do as well...and really their origins didn't have the availability to eat much out of that realm. I came across an older sheltie manual (I think it was written in the 40' or 50's) It said do NOT feed a sheltie anything other than lamb, porridge of oats, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, an occasional fish. Which really is a pretty healthy mix.
