He looks wonderful, Janet. You have done a great job with him. His coat is looking much better.

Furmom- Congratulations on the new grandaughter. She sure is a good size girl.

Janet, he looks awesome!

His coat is looking very healthy which means your winning the battle.

Hugs to you both!

Janet you are doing such a wonderful job with him! He does look so much better! He's gone through a lot, his eyes will perk up eventually. The outside is much easier to mend, than the inside.

Yesterday we took Newton along to the craft show at my church for 1.5 hours...as Newton is my crafting buddy and with the idea that we would get his picture taken with Santa Claus.

Poor Newton was not happy with the noise and all the people. He just trembled. No submissive peeing, no crying...just staying stuck to me and trembling. I didn't try the picture. I walked him around the hall a time or two (ok, well I CARRIED him he didn't want down). I then took my seat at my craft booth and put Newton on the floor at my feet. He was content to lie at my feet for a while; then he wanted in my lap. He was quiet and relaxed but kept his eyes on my belly the rest of the time. Folks were admiring him but he didn't look at them. He was OVERJOYED when we got back home, running around everywhere jumping on the couches; and then when I sat down he glued himself to my side for the rest of the evening.

Well we will just keep trying with the community visits. We'll be taking him along to Chapel Hill for my extended family's Thanksgiving meal. I plan a few more trips out and around before that big trip.

Likely he was worried that he would not go back to 'his' home that he likes so much. Once he figures out that trips probably mean extra petting :biggrin2:

Poor Newton! It sounds like it will just take several of these outings for him to become more comfortable. It took him awhile to get settled into your house, and now that he trusts you, it will take him a bit of time to get used to new sounds and situations.

Keep up the good work :)

I am glad you gave it a try! Considering all he has been through, it sounds like he did a pretty good job. :smile2: Hopefully when he finds out he always gets to go home afterwards, he'll start to relax. I have never met him, but I am totally in love with that dog. :smile2:
