Actually, it doesn't really bother them at all. It is a very quick surgery and they are recovered usually by the evening! It is less severe than getting the teeth cleaned, or spaying or neutering. However, I do realize that the latter NEED to be done where some feel that de-barking doesn't....if you live in close proximity to neighbors and have more than one Shelties...you NEED to have it done LOL I have a great vet that does mine. We drop them off in the morning and pick them up early afternoon. They are sleepy on the way home but are ready to eat by evening. The next day they are completely back to normal! ) It is much more humane than a Sheltie ending up in a shelter because the owner can't control the chattiness of their dog!That was very nice of you and it sounds like she has found a nice home and you will still get to see her.
All of the shelties we have had were debarked prior to our getting them. There barks were reduced but none as much as our Baby, Trinket, that we just lost. Trinkie's bark was so quiet our neighbors never even knew we had another fur kid until we met them when going out for a walk.
It did not stop Trinkie from barking, she barked at the dishwasher, when we got the vacuum out, coffee grinder, hair dryer, dogs on TV, door bell sounds, the lawn mower, you name it, she was so cute. When she went outside she would bark at other dogs even though she was so quiet they couldn't hear her. It never stopped her as she didn't know I am sure that she wasn't making the noise she should have.
