Very bad news...

I am so sorry to hear this. But give him tons of hugs, kisses and treats. He will be in Heaven waiting for you if it comes to that. I have planted flowering shrubs for my babies that went over the rainbow bridge and I quietly talk to them . the neighbors must think I am goofy. But it is a way to find comfort and continue bond. Love conquers all.

We lost our first Sheltie Bailey this way. We'd been blessed with over a decade with him and made the choice to live with Predisone and no chemo after consulting with his vet.

My one suggestion from living this experience is don't anticipate the death, live the life as long as you can. He lived far longer than anyone anticipated and I got over my fear of waking up every morning and expecting this to be the day and came to appreciate the time with him and enjoyed his company. It was clear when the end was near and there was no pretending otherwise but I feel very blessed that every day wasn't thinking about when but how can we live today.

Labs came back today on aspirate from a small mass on Jake's abdomen near his hind legs... he has lymphoma. Vet said prednisone could keep him comfortable for 1 - 6 months. Vet said we should have a conversation about chemo, I don't know if I want to put him through that.

I just want to pick him up and hold him all day long... but he doesn't really like that too much... I want to treat him as normally as I can, and spend the time we have left doing the things he loves the most, the beach, the dog park

I have no idea how I'm going to make it through this. Just trying to keep it together is all I can focus on. I'm "in" a work meeting at the moment because my attendance is required, but it's a facade, like a crash test dummy... or a deer in the headlights, the semi is coming but nowhere to run...

I almost wish my heart would stop beating when his does... in a way, it will... it might as well, it's already broken.
Bless your heart. I have been through this before and your heart does feel like it’s breaking. All of us know in our heads when we allow these precious angels into our hearts, there will come a time when we have to let them go, but our hearts will never accept that truth and that is why they live in our hearts forever. Please try to live in the present moment and enjoy every one of them.
I will be praying for you.
