When Smudge first came home I was in the market for a new crate. I decided to try a favorite store of mine from when I used to keep tropical fish. This store had moved to a new location, and it was now in a much larger building. I brought my Dad with me, because you didn't really think I was going to load a crate into the back of my truck did you?
So we stop by the pet store's new location. They were still setting things up. I don't like the fact that pet stores sell any animals to be honest with you. Their rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, ect. go through the same things that dogs go through. I was looking at the crates when the woman from the back announces rather loudly that EVERYBODY MAKE WAY WE ARE BRINGING OUT THE PUPPIES!

Then I turned to my dad and just as loudly announced that I DON'T BUY FROM STORES THAT CATER TO PUPPYMILLS SO LET'S GO GET OUR CRATE SOMEPLACE ELSE BEFORE I GO OFF ON SOMEBODY. We left ASAP.
But, like I said. Hamsters, birds, fish, and every other animals sold at a pet store goes through the same horrors as dogs do when they are bought at stores.
There is nothing wrong with a "mutt" for a pet, and I have had mutts for most of my life. However, I'd rather rescue a mutt from the pound than to put money in somebody's pocket that does not need it. Labradoodles, goldendoodles, cockapoos, ect. you can call them a designer breed, but I've had heated arguments with people I know about how you can't breed for any kind of a temperment, and about how puppies can look totally different between two different litters.
If I have a sheltie I want people to know he/she is a sheltie. People might ask if I have a collie, and that doesn't bother me so much. But if you walk down the street with a "goldendoodle" nobody knows what the triggerfish your dog is, because half of them look different and there is no set look to them.
