very upset

I expect when you're working then you set out to look for problems, when you're with your own clan you're not actively looking or expecting for something to be admiss. I didn't notice Revel's broken tooth (also a slab fracture) until he developed an abcess:no:. I was so used to his teeth being OK that I just hadn't checked them for a while and he was still eating fine and showing no sign of discomfort.

As everyone has said, with a heavy coated dog it is very easy to overlook a slight loss/gain of weight.

:hugs Don't beat yourself up over it and hope all the blood work comes back OK. Certainly sounds like there's some food thiefs about!:eek2:

Absolutely abusive maybe they should come home with Team S next week :biggrin2:

Though I need to weight the guys myself but have been avoiding picking up Sca (well and doing things)

Every time I find anything wrong with my babies, I always ask, "When did that happen? Why didn't I notice that before?" Of course, they can't tell me! But at least we DO notice it--finally. We really can't be perfect although I know all of us who love our babies really want to be, for their sakes. We are all doing our very best to give them the best life possible. I think we feel guilty because we love them so very much.

I sure hope Justice gains some weight soon and I am sure you can take care of Ember's tooth and fix that. Try not to beat yourself up any more. :hugs

Dr. Shelli, it is easy for weight loss to go undetected with such a coat as shelties have. Heck the other day, Harper had a tick on her and I didn't even see it til it fell off in the bed cause of her Comfortis meds. I had just brushed her that day. I tell you it is always something.

Know what? I think it is the two little darlings, being sneak eaters and he is just too good natured to make a fuss.

Seamus used to get pinched by Harper for food, until I changed rooms. Harper is a sneaky Pete as well.

You are a good Mom, just cause you are a vet doesn't mean you are infallible and our furkids are great at little white lies.

Hugs,
Kate

So now Justice didn't eat at all this morning. Pulling Bloodwork to send in. He has eaten really well the last 2 days maybe I just stuffed him like a Thanksgiving turkey. Maybe his midnight snack didn't agree with him. His stomach seemed sort of full this morning. Say a pray for us nothing major is going on.

Hope all is well with Justice before you leave on holidays later in the week. Prayers that all will be well.

I hope they both feel better soon.

Weight loss is such a subtle problem, especially with full coated dogs. My friend has on-going issues with her flat coats when it comes to weigh - one can't keep anything on if he gets stressed, while her oldest one seemed to lose weight after he had an op to remove a nasty cyst.

It was only when I hadn't seen her oldest one for a while and then she brought him to class that I noticed the difference, but even so it was slight.

And teeth are just as difficult. Quite frankly, even though I do look at the dogs' teeth I wouldn't have a clue how to tell if there was a fracture.

I agree that Justice's weight could easily be due to the summer heat and extra exercise the longer days allow. Merlin's appetite has fallen too and with it his weight (though I do compensate by feeding titbits:o)

With Cadbury it is the reverse problem... He has put on 2kgs again...

Well apparently Justice was stuffed or hot this morning because he ate his entire dinner. Bloodwrk is good so I am guessing he just needs to eat more. I wonder too I put the panacur powder in his food last night and I wonder if he thought I was trying to slip something into the food. I put it in a small bit of merrick canned this evening no issues with taking the panacur. Of course, my other piggies eat it on the dry and lick the bowl clean.

Thanks everyone for listening to me ravings. None of my family understands that my dogs are more than pets to me especially Justice I am alittle nutty when it comes to him.

Sounds like me with Miko. :)

I'm glad he was just stuffed from last night and eating again. Sounds like thing are going well and maybe the girls were just stealing food? Hmm...have they gotten a bit chubby? And glad to hear his bloodwork is fine.

No they hadn't but I was trying to keep they weight under control. Ember is 13 lbs now. Perfect weight for her. Diva is 19lbs almost perfect for her. I just would like more muscle on both them but because of the heat they have been pretty sedate and muscle doesn't build itself. Birch is a lean mean 23.5lbs he eat in his kennel because he is food crazy and no one would get any or Birch would be killed.
