Water bowl for "side" drinkers?

That is strange. 4 shelties here and 6 at Rachel's plus puppies and I don;t think I have ever seen a side drinker. I will have to pay more attention.

Here you go! I managed to get a video of Riley drinking after class today. Please excuse the random camera movement at one part.....the cat was demanding attention by rubbing on my camera hand!

I also attached a picture.....but for some reason it is uploading upside down :confused2:

Bentley is a side drinker, too. It's a pain, especially if we're in the car or something and I'm trying to give him some water from a cup. I have to tilt the cup just so, and generally end up spilling it everywhere

I laughed out loud at your video because I get the random camera movement caused by the cat all the time!

Nope I have never seen a shletie drink like that. But then again I have Ember who think the water bowl is going to attack her so I guess quirky drinking habits is a sheltie thing.:smile2:

Is this what you are thinking of for the fountain? I have seen them and wondered how they would work.

A good choice. I also posted one earlier in the tread which is like an upside down bowl

And I finally found the less expensive version

All of these are great for side drinkers. I'm thinking of getting one of them myself.

p.s. the Pioneer Pet that Emmasmom posted just FLIES off my shelf! It does come in two sizes.

I have two suggestions to try. First, add water to his food so that hopefully he will get some that way.
Second, freeze a diluted water and broth mixture into shallow ice cubes. Start giving him the cubes as treats. Look for low sodium broth and make sure you check the labels. Campbell's just came out with a really low sodium, few ingredient chicken broth. When I make them I put about 1/8 th of an inch of broth into the tray, semi freeze it and then add another 1/8 - 1/4" of water and fully freeze the combo If he likes them then start adding one to his drinking bowl in the middle of the bowl and only fill the bowl by about a half an inch. Make sure he sees and knows what you are doing. The idea is to get him to dunk for the cube and take in water as he does it. It helped me "cure" my side drinker but I have found that she prefers me to have the bowl half full - maybe she snorted some as a baby and has an aversion to putting her muzzle into deeper water, who knows? She also prefers her ceramic dish to the stainless ones that everyone else likes. Hope it helps.
