If they show in breed they shoud know that not all dogs like this and to maintain control of their dog. Common manners at a dog show, don't let your dogs get into another dogs space. If they don't listen, I would get rude. Sorry. I warned you. He will snap now back off. <Polite smile> My dog Jazz didn't like other dogs in her face. It was my job to keep her safe so she didn't need to take matters into her own hands. BTW Jazz got a UKC CD and an ASCA CD. She could be very good around other dogs and most people had no idea how she use to be. They didn't know her when I first got her and they didn't believe it.
This is more so for Smudge than Fluffy. This is kind of related, and kind of not. This is more so for Smudge than Fluffy.
Does anybody know where I might find a really, really, long leash to tie to my waist to use for home training for Smudge? Do you think maybe after we use it for a while at home that it might be useful in helping him overcome his skittishness if we use it at other places, like down the road my grandmother lives down?
Also, how do you tie these types of leashes to your waist in a way that it will not come undone?
You should be able to get a 20-30 foot long line that's made of webbing. I've never tied it around my waist, but if I were going to, I would just run the clip end through the loop and then clip it to the dog's collar. If you wear a belt or a treat bag on a belt, you could also use a carbiner clip to attach the loop on the lead to your belt. That's what I usually do when I want to have my hands free on a walk because it gives you an easy way to unclip your dog.

Ah! So instead of having yours around your waist do you just hold the other end in your hand? It was suggested to me a loooooong time ago by a lady in obedience class who bred beagles that this is what I should do for Smudge. She suggested putting it around my waist, but I think I would rather just hold it. It would make me less nervous about Smudge running off.![]()

As for a long line, I have a 40 foot tie out that I use if I want more space with my pups. They come in all kinds of lengths and are weather proof.

I would clip one end to my belt loop I needed to. Most of the time I clip the tie out to something sturdy outside because I don't like the feel of it clipped to me.
