We are going to the park!

what about using seat belt harnesses instead of a crate?

Two dogs + 1 person = only two seatbelts so somebody gets left out. I'm going to try to get that picture of my truck up tonight after work. It's hard to understand unless you see it. I really, really want to get rid of that truck and get a small suv, but I just don't see that happening for a good long while. Who would have ever thought that my dogs would have an impact on future car choices?

After things settle down with my grandmother I can use my Mom's car, but for right now I am stuck with my clown truck.

I really, really want to take them both though. What I might do is after next Wednesday ask Mom if she wants to come with me! Maybe she will think it is fun and I can get a handler out of it as well. :biggrin2:

I have a friend who has a particular Honda Element because it has the best interior for the dogs, so you are not alone Jessica

There are leash belts you can buy (handy when you have 2 dogs and you want to work with one at a time), but another way is to put the leash across one shoulder and pull the end of the lead through the handle, or you can get a double ended lead and clip it that way - quite sturdy then (safest way to tether Mr D when cars are around)

Yes, I ended up getting this one (http://www.buddysys.com/how_to_use.php)

for long trips by car, when I take Snap out at rest stops along the interstate. I actually double leash him there, using the buddy leash as well as his normal leash. I'm terrified that he'll jerk his normal leash out of my hand and go after a car or truck.

The buddy sytem can also be used when you want to have a free hand for clicking / treating and want to practice loose leash walking.

hehehehe I cant talk when I went to pick out my car I brought my dog crates with me to see how they would fit! I want the Honda Pilot but it doesnt fit the crates and ex pen as nicely as my odyssey....and they just sent me the brochure for the new 2011 odyssey.....Ohhhhh I like it (of course I must find a paying job first...minor details:lol:)..

Mine isn't that big.

Here is the inside of my truck with my travel kennel. First of all, I did not clean the inside out. :uhoh: So be warned. Our cart pusher called in today, and I have already been outside most of the day getting carts so the 70 year old door greeter wouldn't have to. So by the time I got home I was like...nah. They can deal with my messy truck.

Like the saying goes, "Laugh if you want to, but it's paid for!"

I could get a larger size travel kennel, BUT it would block my view of my outside mirror. It is already blocking a nice size of the window. As you can see, there is no way another travel kennel could fit in the floor.

If you are wondering what the silver thing is in the crate it is the water pail. I didn't bother with taking it out. The blue thing is a blue pillow Jennifer sewed for Mr. Smudge.

Also, the more I go out I am noticing that I need two things.

1. a bag to hold my stuff while I walk with my dog (water pail, treats, clickers, toys, ect. - especially if we are going somewhere like class where I have to carry something in from my truck to a certain point)
2. a folding chair

I did bring a folding chair to the dog show, but it was a blue metal folding chair. I want a nicer one. I found two bags that I like:

But which one do I get? The tri or the sable?

I say go for the one that has something to do with you for a change.

I would consider trying the harness seat belts. I mean, the worst that can happen is that they don't work and you return them, right?

Most of the harnesses have loops that you thread the seatbelt through. How can you adjust this for two dogs? Thread the loops through for One dog and use a carabiner to clip on the other (probably Smudge since he is tallest).

And to solve your problem about handling the dog while you are there, get a soft crate to pop up while you are there. OR just throw your travel kennel in the back f the truck. There will be times when you need to travel with the two dogs, not just for this, so it might be nice to start practicing.
