Westminster Dog Show?

So I have to share my favorite Westminster story with everyone. A woman from Canada with her Old English Sheepdog told me the saga of her trip to New York as she was waiting in line to leave the Garden last night. Seems she'd booked space for her Old English on a Delta flight on Sunday, in plenty of time to arrive in NY, but when they got on the plane and put her dog in the hold where the big dogs fly, the captain told her that when he tried to activate the air/heat in the hold it wasn't working and they couldn't take the dog.

She told him that they were going to Westminster to compete. Her dog has won 25 BIS, and this was to be his retirement show. The captain polled the crew and the passengers in the last four rows of the plane, and everyone agreed. She and her dog flew to NY with the dog sitting beside her on the plane. Everyone cheered when they left and wished her luck. She said it was the best part of the trip and it didn't matter that they didn't win the breed; she was still writing a letter to the captain and Delta to say thanks.

It's the stories like these that make Westminster such a cool show. Had to share it. :wink2:

What a great story. Thanks for sharing!

no big suprise on who won. I picked her out before westminster even started. I was really hoping CJ the dobe would win!

did you see the intruders?? When we was watching my husband wanted to know why everyone was booing the dobie, here someone was holding up peta signs! I caught a glimpse of her but couldnt read what the sign said.

I DID hear the booing and was wondering why they were booing the dog! That makes a lot more sense.

I was pretty certain it would be Sadie, too, but I was hoping for the Dobie or that sweet Brittany (long-shot, I know, but I love her face).

I heard the booing, but missed seeing the PETA sign. I don't mean to offend anyone, but those PETA people are messed up.

Well that just shows you how many dog shows I frequent, I just assumed there was a 2nd and 3rd place.

I too wondered about the booing but didn't see the peta signs. I assumed they couldn't be booing the dobe though, she was so beautiful.

I thought Sadie would get it, but I loved the Dobe and the Puli too.

PETA is a good idea gone horribly wrong because of extremism. Extremes in anything is never good. Their stunts make their organization look foolish. BUT, you have to admit, their stunts do succeed, though maybe not as they fully intended.

We are taking about them aren't we?

Someone, somewhere, is going to talk about what they did at Westminster (heck, it could be this very conversation showing up on a Google search for "Westminster" for all we know) and someone, or someone else, somewhere is going to look up more information about PETA and possibly join their cause.

In their eyes, that is mission accomplished because they brought attention to their cause.

You know what they say - there is no such thing as bad publicity.

I am happy they picked the little scottish terrier, and I agree the brit, and the dobi were really pretty dogs.

The judge on setters, I was not happy with the setter he picked, oh here I go, there was a dog he left go that was stunning, and I could not believe it. He must of liked the handlers outfit, UMMMM. Sorry.

Well what do I know I am not a judge, handler, or a breeder, I just know what I like to see. The setters with alot of white with tan ticking are more popular. The dog that I liked was Flying Colors, call name Archie. Black and white, and not faded looking. Head, body, strut, coloring, it was all there.

The irish setter, was really beautiful. Style, color, body!

The older gal with her sable sheltie, really pretty.

PETA PHYYYYYYYYYT! Why when the dobi was up? Cropping?

GREAT STORY ANN! Glad there were lots of dog lovers there for her.
