Over the last few weeks I've noticed the same breeder names coming up over a pretty wide geography! For example, newly Rassy and I made a connection with Shelhaven in Nova Scotia - I'm in Ontario and Rassy is in the deep, dark north of Manitoba - that's a geography that is maybe twice the size of continental Europe!

Reputable champion breeders will go out of thier way to breed outside their region, to avoid too much inbreeding that could dilute the bloodline. Our one pedigreed dog was born in Michigan, but the sire was from Florida. Even then, there were family crossovers on both sides of her lineage. (14 champions total, thank you very much.) She was never shown though.

So I am a huge pedigree geek. I admit it. I have software, and a decent database. :smile2:

One evening I sat down and tracked the male and female tail lines all the way to the unregistered dogs. This mean take the top row of your pedigree (sire, g-sire, etc.) all the way to the end; or the bottom row (dam, g-dam, etc.).

No Trade Mark in Bailey's lineage, but there were some other Cindahope's on her sire's side.

oh we all know about Peter Pumpkin. That boy sure got around. I think he sired the most sheltie litters in the US.
 
Peter Pumpkin's name is Halstor's Peter Pumpkin. He was bred by Edie Overly of Framingham Mass. Tom bought the puppy from her. I believe he sired 167 Champions.
 
Comparing the lineage is a lot of fun! I saw a dog that looked like Randi's Bailey, and they ended up being related. I thought that was neat, how the different lines have unique "looks."

My Chloe has a lot of Macdega, and then she has Barwood, Starhaven, Cameo, Locklynns and a bunch of Shamonts.

Dandie has Macdega, Barwood, Teaberry Lane, Zion, and a bunch of others, lol.
