What random things does your sheltie bark at?

I was reading the de-barking thread, and I thought this would be a fun topic.

I'll start:

Levi (3 yr old Bi-Blue) - He barks at:

Bags (when they are higher than him, like on a table)
Floral Print
The garbage truck
You (If you change your clothing without him knowing, and then he see's you again)

I'm sure there are a ton more, but that is what I have for now. What does your sheltie bark at?

Sneezing is the Big one. If you sneez, your sheltie will go off with crazy bark. Trains, lawnmower, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles, these are BIG ones.

Anything and everything - squirrels, the cat, doorbells, whistles (even if he hears them on TV) the pool, when people he's not really familiar with come inside, me (when he wants to eat/go outside) .... he barks pretty much anything and a lot of the times, absolutely nothing

Dickens doesn't bark in the house unless he's trying to get your attention or is told to. Outside he barks at the neighbors' dogs, the neighbor's son, the trash truck, and cats. Pretty standard stuff for a dog. I would really like him to sound an alert inside if he hears something strange going on outside the house, but if this never comes to pass I won't agonize too much over it.

Lil' Lady is terrible when I sneeze, she thinks I am on my way out.
Lucky and Lady both bark at the sweeper and squirrels.
When a car pulls on the drive, they both get excited barking.

Lucky? If my husband holds the remote too long while he is watching a golf game or football game. He barks and then he will paw the remote.

Again tonight I had to fix the tv with the remote. Then he started barking and pawing the remote with me. Ok Lucky we will play ball so you can bark
at that, but let me re-program the tv so dad can watch his golf.

I heard Liam barking out in the yard the other night. When I went to see what he was barking at, it was at nothing. He was just trotting around in the yard, letting out small barks, just for the joy I guess of being Liam, getting healthier(I have had a real struggle with his health since Dad went), and just for the joy of spring coming. What a boy:smile2:

I went home at lunch to check something and could here Spitfire grumbling through the door. At first I figured it was battle royale with Sca but not when I looked out the window. Nope he was darting one way then the other with pauses to stop and bite grass :confused2: Then I walked out and heard thunder. Yep thunder must be attacked  Sca was in his house staying dry.

Treesa barks when my son is coming home....She seems to be able to sense him getting off the bus about a block and a half from here...and can tell he is walking towards the house......Then she totally harasses him when he comes in (actually to excess)
We have no idea how she can tell it's him from so far away..???
Other than that it's appropriate, doorbell, on tv or not.
:pop
This was explained on the Nat Geo show "Dog Genius". They used the example of a beagle who was waiting at the door everyday for his owner when she got there. Other family members noticed the dog would get up and go to the door about 2 min before she walked in every day. So they put in video cameras. Sure enough the dog would wake up from sound sleep even to go to the door. Then the experts explained that every engine has a different sound/vibration and the owner rode the bus. A block away is within the dog's hearing range. The beagle knew the sound of the bus from that far away. They also said each car has its own distinctive sound and dogs can tell the difference and hear it coming from far off! How cool is that :biggrin2:

I originally posted that my two bark at everything.....but I have another to add. The coffee grinder! I decided to grind coffee the other day....oh, gosh, what a commotion!

Laughing reading some of these. Here I thought Sophie was semi-lunatic, yet see so many that she barks at too! I guess she's pretty normal! Here's what she barks at:

Anything having to do with cleaning the floor - broom, vacuum, steam cleaner AND dustpan!
Ringing phones - cell phone and home phone, but she immediately stops when the phone is actually answered
TV - random stuff, but almost always other dogs, football and the GEICO gecko (Yes, really. Every. Time. :rolleyes2: )
Random happenings outside - predictably, garbage pickup, UPS/FedEx, deer, squirrels and birds, as well as other unseen things (I call them her imaginary friends)
Doorbell - thankfully, she seems to have outgrown TV doorbells
Thunder and fireworks - tried the Thundershirt, if anything it made her more annoyed
The grinder/chopper and the mixer
And the ABSOLUTE WORST is taking out the garbage! To say she barks is putting it mildly. She gets upset, barks, runs around the kitchen, tries to bite the garbage bag, etc. She's done it since she was a puppy, and I can't figure out why she does it or how to break her of it :gaah

Small victories: she's outgrown barking at the wind, heavy rain and the reflection of the TV in the window at night.
