I need you Cadbury!!!
Mine all bark at different things:
Revel
- potential threats to the house including The Postman! (Even when we are on holiday he will bark at a postman if he sees one!)
- trying to control other dogs (mainly the shelties) when they are playing. He's never liked the dogs all playing together and when younger used to wade in and stop them (while barking). He still does that sometimes but most often he stands off and yells "Will you stop that!!!" at them.
- Dinner
Yogi
-Other dogs and people appearing suddenly. That's pretty much the only thing he ever barks at but actually it's the worst possible. He never barks during play but if I need to retrace my steps on a walk for any reason or heaven forbid -run - he is a real pain as he squeals and gets under my feet. He would be rubbish at agility.
- He does this funny excited whimper when I'm cutting up carrots which is his favourite food!
Yogi never ever barks if someone comes to the house, he leaves that to the others.
Once we did a 'Have a Go' flyball taster and he barked without drawing a breath for about half an hour waiting for his turn. He did love it but needless to say I didn't take him again!
Epic
-He barks a lot!
- Excitement is the main reason.
- Why are you leaving and not taking me? (I have to make it very plain from the outset when he is not coming by following a set and sedate routine)
- Someone coming into the house
He rarely barks at other dogs but he does growl. Actually he is the most vocal of all my dogs as he has a whole repoitoire of sounds depending on the situation. My favourite is his rolling growl!
Merlin
- Visitors and the telephone
When I'm getting their food ready unfortunatly the two tris get beside themselves with excitement which of course is reflected in barking. But every Friday they have a sardine each added to the food and it always makes me laugh that when I open the sardine tin lid there suddenly falls a reverential silence which lasts until the sardines are all dished out!
