What random things does your sheltie bark at?

My last Sheltie barked at EVERYTHING. Changing trash bags, paper grocery bags, anyone going out of a door and closing it behind them, tossing his toys back into the toy basket, fire and tornado sirens, cars passing on the street outside (including chasing from window to window), small planes trying to land at the nearby civil aviation airport, amateur radio users identifying their stations on my radio rig, and of course, the vacuum cleaner.

Bela is pretty laid back, and doesn't have all that much to say. She barks when I say "woof" in a conversational manner, when attempting to play, when Gracie knocks her out of the way to get closer to me, at three obnoxious Boxers at the dog park, and when she sees or hears the dog treats coming out.

Gracie, my honorary Sheltie, barks when you don't climb the stairs fast enough at dinner time, when you don't pet her instead of Bela, and whines to be petted WHILE she's being petted. (She's extremely needy.) She also barks when we go sit in the den to watch tv.

Treesa barks when my son is coming home....She seems to be able to sense him getting off the bus about a block and a half from here...and can tell he is walking towards the house......Then she totally harasses him when he comes in (actually to excess)
We have no idea how she can tell it's him from so far away..???
Other than that it's appropriate, doorbell, on tv or not.
:pop

Just remembered another one, Revel will bark (as a last resort) if he thinks I should be going to bed. After he has paced around for a bit sighing heavily.:rolleyes2:

Maybe its the lineage? Indy is exactly the same way. He seems to have ESP and know when Ryan is about the leave the house or coming home. He goes ape everytime! I know Ryan is on his way home about 2 minutes before I hear him come in the door. And he knows the difference between Ryan just doing stuff or getting ready to go out. Indy KNOWS! It's bizarre.

Also, my bedroom and office both look out onto the "back 40" where people walk their dogs. Indy will be absolutely comatose on the bed, then suddenly leap off the bed and start barking....then 1 minute later, a dog will walk by. Usually, I can't even see the dog before Indy starts to bark, but sure enough, a dog walks by shortly after. Weird!

Beyond that its the usual: hair dryers, vacuums, door bells, sons (yes, they bark at Ryan all the time), feeding time, squirrels, lawn mowers and the evil printer!!!!

p.s. tried a remote ultrasonic trainer on Indy when he barks at the printer. It's not a collar but just a remote handheld device. It freakin' works! It only took a couple of hits, and then big praise when he stopped barking. It stops him in his tracks, completely.

Now when the printer starts to go, I only have to say his name in a growly voice and he stops immediately.

So now I'm going to start using the remote trainer in other problem areas.

p.s. the remote trainer does not work on Bacca at all. He doesn't even seem to sense it. So maybe my poor boy is deaf as well as all his other issues.

When I was growing up, my neighbors Labrador retriever knew what time we were suppose to be at the bus stop in the morning and what time we were suppose to be home in the afternoon. He would wait for us and if we didn't have school for one reason or another he would come down the road and wait at the end of drive way and bark like crazy. He made my dog tiger crazy when he did that, I would have to come out and tell him,' No school today cracker, go home,"
