I taught my dog to spin on command too. She used to get it confused with the "sit" hand signal.

Here, we try to discourage spinning because it translates to the show ring when they know you have food. Also, outside the ring, when bordom sets in and you are just waiting, some dogs will spin. It twists the collar into the fur, tightening it and knotting into the ruff. It is a hard lesson for puppies to learn, that they must control themselves. Now, to do it on command is a cute trick, and something we train in agility.

even when i take my puppy for a walk he circles around me .. instead of leading or walking along side me..... im going to have to work on that problem with him .

The notion is that if you can get them to spin on your command, you can also "turn them off" when you don't want them to spin. So the theory goes....Still working on that myself!

Hate to tell you but it doesnt work. Deska can spin on command - didnt take long for him to learn it, and I actually think it encouraged him to spin even more, after all wouldnt you if there was a chance of a treat for spinning.

Mine spin, but its called the Sheltie Ballet.

that was Toffee.. it's a fast trick to teach, isn't it? I was amazed... and I was just saying in another thread gosh I have to be focused it gets too easy to get command confused and then isn't the dogs fault, lol

Funny enough Toffee is NOT much of a spinner as other Shelties!! I think it is an adorable quirk!
