When should a Sheltie puppy's ears start coming up?

honestly being in for a week at a time sounds awesome to me- at one point, I was gluing daily until I was given some Japanese tape to use:winkgrin:

I forgot to say that I was ecstatic when the ears stayed in for a week:winkgrin:

RoFL, and I thought I was doing something wrong because the braces keep coming out. His ears stay up for a day or two after the braces come out, but after that they start reverting back toward hound ear status, so I guess I need to keep this up. Has anyone tried Japanese tape with Breathe Right strips?

I've had Devon's ears glued and braced since about September now, and about a week ago he pulled one of the breathe right strips off (they had been on for a month and a half non-stop), so I took the other one off and decided to see what happened. He's 6 1/2 months old now and they have been braced since he was about 3 months. It's been about a week now and his ears are still up, whereas before when he got the bracing off and I waited a day or two they started to droop back to "hound" position. I'm becoming cautiously optimistic that perhaps the bracing has done its job and I won't have to do it anymore. Here's what he looks like now, complete with some glue still on the hair around his ears as he won't let me remove more than a little at a time without fussing:

My intention at this point is to leave them alone unless they start to droop again, unless there is reason to keep doing it even though they are up. I know I read somewhere that they should be braced until 9 months, but I think that advice was for keeping ears tipped rather than correcting hound ears, so I'm not sure if it applies to both.

Thoughts and comments welcome.

P.S. Merry Christmas to All (including all Shelties who are hoping for some good treats from the Christmas dinner table<g>)

You've done a fantastic job at bringing his ears up, compared to how low they were before...he looks great!
You may have to brace again as he grows (ear set can change as the dog grows) but you don't have to tip if your ok with that look. My 10 year old has prick ears and that look certainly suits him (although I'm still tipping my pups ears at almost 11 months, but I like the tipped look).

Merry Christmas to your gang as well! Keep the snacks from the dinner table limited to the low fat veggie kind lol...don't want to end up with any tummy problems after dinner haha!

Yes, I don't care if they are tipped or not, so I'm not going to worry about that as long as they stay standing and he doesn't look like he had a Basset Hound for one parent.

Devon was a bad little dog today at dinner though. He got a few veggie treats and a little white meat turkey (no gravy), but nothing bad, UNTIL I GOT UP TO GET A FORK FOR THE PIE. He ran over to the table and grabbed my piece of pecan pie off of the plate that apparently was just within reach on the edge of the table, and proceeded to scarf it down before anyone could do anything about it. By the time I got back to the table with my fork, there was nothing to eat with it. I hope it doesn't make him sick. Good thing it wasn't all that large a piece of pie.

What a bad boy! I hope he didn't get sick.

Years ago my mom had a Cocker Spaniel and unbeknownst to us he'd been snacking on the butter tarts (they'd been on the bottom shelf of a microwave stand)....we caught him when he went for his 6th one!
Needless to say my sister in law wasn't too happy when he puked on her foot when we were sitting around the kitchen table after our Christmas dinner!

ROFL! I'll bet food wasn't stored on the microwave shelf after that <g>. Fortunately Devon didn't get sick, but I was wise enough to take him out early yesterday morning for a long walk and sure enough he ejected a steaming pile of sloppy nastiness by the side of the road which I was afraid might have ended up inside the house somewhere had I let him sleep in.

Ewwww...indeed...good thing you took him for a walk!
Piper and Finnie were scoping out the coffee table on Christmas Eve which was loaded with all kinds of yummy goodies lol. It took a very sharp eye of mine to keep them away!
Even a well trained dog will steal when it's placed at their level:ROFLMAO:!
