    A Cruz Update!

Wow, it has been awhile.. summer and travel has kept me from sheltieforums but I am back, and with LOTS of updates! Our 2016 is winding down now, with only two trials left this season. What a ride this year has been. Many, many trials, two new titles, so many travel adventures, regionals, and...

Back on Track products and 1-TDC supplement

I use the back on track mesh coat for Cruz. While like you, I'm not 100% on the research, Cruz loves his coat and I do think it keeps his muscles warm. While it may not 'help', it certainly doesn't do any harm!

What to do when you can't avoid triggers on walks?

If only it was that easy..... we tried the whole desensitizing thing after Cruz got hit and it just made it worse. Ideally you want to remove the dog from any of the stimulus he/she reacts to for months then slowly reintroduce it. Unfortunately that's not realistic with cars, so start out...

    Weave pole question...

Yup! Practice more entries by sending her from everywhere "around the clock." Can you send her from you left? Right? From the end of the weaves? Weaves take so long to perfect and they need a lot of proofing and revisiting. This past weekend proved that to be true for us

    Putting Weight On

Tell him to stop moving so much ;). I had the same issue with Cruz.. switched him to raw and he has been at a good weight since. I know you don't want to switch food but is giving a raw meaty bone every once in awhile an option? ie. once a week or every other week? They usually have more fat to...

    Sheltie or Collie

Looks aside, I agree with tofu pup. My boy is a lot like yours.. STRONG herding instinct. While I've put in the training to tone it down, I still need to do a lot of management. Keeping him out of view, if possible, from cyclists/runners/cars will help. Also, from experience, cyclists and...

What to do when you can't avoid triggers on walks?

Oh I feel your pain.. my boy got hit by a car at 8 months because of his car reactivity :(. We have worked A LOT on it since then so I can give you some tips, but I do suggest going to a professional for help, as it's hard to give advice when we can't actually see what's going on. The Look at...

    Is this effective training?

Yup! We played the collar game too. When you start adding in distractions, make YOU more fun and interesting by running away from pup in the other direction. When he catches up to you, cookie and big party!

    Camping tips

We've been camping a lot this year because of the early summer we've gotten! A cooler is a definite MUST.. the bigger the better so you can bring human and dog food! I'm lucky because Cruz is a great little camper and nothing really phases him but if your boy is a worrier I would probably bring...

    Cooling vests

I won't use a cooling coat with Cruz because they won't work with all that sheltie fur. This is our setup for summer trials: - Shade tent - Clip sun reflectors to the sides - and THIS!! http://m.homedepot.com/p/Arctic-Cove-18-Volt-Two-Speed-Misting-Bucket-Top-Fan-MBF0181/205744083 It is so...

    Very scary day yesterday

Oh how scary! There was a house fire in a town close by recently and a dog trainer lost 8 dogs and 2 cats from smoke inhalation.. every dog lover/owners worst nightmare :(. Glad Cleo is okay!

    Agility Addicts Spring Camp 2016

We really are lucky! Justine, Jess and Rebecca come out here quite often for 2 and 3 day seminars but this is the first time it's been an overnight camp. Hopefully the first of many! It's great because they really get to see the progression of teams! And we always learn so much from them!

    Agility Addicts Spring Camp 2016

Little man and I attended an agility camp this weekend.. 3 days of agility, ciders and wine, hanging out with friends, hiking and late night campfires. It was my version of heaven! Multiple time world team members Justine Davenport and Rebecca McKay were our instructors and the group of people...

    Natural flea and tick options

I am thinking just ticks and mosquitoes as they have a different one for fleas! Let me know how it works for you! I haven't had a chance to test it against mosquitoes yet
