Allowing your Sheltie to sleep in your bed?

Watson always sleeps in the bed. He likes to snuggle right up... I can't wait until he's more healed and we can snuggle again.. he tries still.

We go camping quite a lot, and quickly discovered that we had to buy a bigger camper with a bigger bed because he insists on sandwiching himself right in between us... feet in the air and hair in disarray... such "bedhead" he has. :smile2:

Spitfire thinks the back bed in the motorhome is his. Sca just thinks he is being sneaky when he gets up and lays across the whole thing grinning. I usually have to boot them off so I can lay down when we go to flyball :gaah

We love it when our puppy Sherlock sleeps with us. Sometimes, when one of us gets up at night, he moves over and claims the pillow, which we think is so cute! He loves to sleep in as well, some weekends he doesn't get out of bed until 11am, and even then it's because we had to coax him off..:sleepy:

DH built a set of stairs for Annie Laurie -- they lead to her hope chest (yes he bought her a hope chest), from which she jumps onto the bed. Her favorite spot is between my legs..or against my legs...or anywhere she can trap me.

Layla starts on the bed, then usually moves down until morning. Then she jumps up and lies next to my face.

Beckon gets to be "Dog of the Night" when DH's back has him sleeping in the guest room bed. He LOVES being Dog of the Night -- sleeps on DH's pillow!

Bitsy Boodle prefers the coolest spot she can find, so she only visits on the bed on the occasional morning. My favorite is when we get all four up there for coffee.

velcro dogs

So amusing to hear how bedtime arrangements are in the households of shelties. My previous 2 slept at the foot of the bed on a bench/sofa. only on really cold nights did either venture on the bed. In summer mths, they too sought out the tile floors in the bathroom. The second one got a coolaroo bed, and with a fan circulating the air, seemed happier-and since she was aging, I would have done anything to accomodate her. Her last mths she preferred to be a velcro dog at night, and I think it was separation aniexty or a bit of disorientation as her vision wasn't as keen at 17. She needed reassurance I was right there, so she slept on my feet most nights. She passed peacefully in my arms in the wee hrs in January, so hard to give up such a precious pet. I sometimes got annoyed at the dead weight on my feet but afterward MISSED having numb feet horribly. 3 mths later Kaleigh entered the picture. Now Kaleigh, being the only pup in her litter has always been a velcro dog in the evening, under foot, having to cuddle or be touching...She would go into her crate for the first part of the night as long as her fur baby toys were lined up just so to cuddle underneath, but only if she could SEE me, then after the 1st potty outing at 12am-ish, she wouldn't settle at all for anything but nearness, and it was just easier to have her sleep some, so I could too, on the bed, until our 4am potty outing. She was always good about letting me know she needed out-nibbling on my ear or slobbering on my ear has been her signal. When she outgrew her crate, I just let her stay at the foot of the bed with her fur babies and on her fleece blanket. But with the new one coming in November, it will be interesting to see where she will "need" to be. Sheltie closeness and kisses are why I love the breed, so if that means sharing sleeping quarters, so be it. And it is apparent others feel the same way.

Ah the act of bed sleeping. I conform my body for the dogs to sleep how they want. We didn't let Ruu sleep on it until he was over a year old. But we'd let him lay on it and build up. He now will sleep on or on the floor or in his crate or in my closet lol depends on his mood and temperature. Honey always slept on my parents bed so she's always slept on ours. Nothing warmer than cuddling a sheltie :) though I think my husband and Honey have snoring contests sometimes

Indy pants and drools (for no reason) so I also have a throw cover on my bed that is easily tossed into the landry. Also deals with Sheltie hair.

So far, 7 month old Callan is allowed on the bed until MY bedtime. Then he is back in his pen. Still in chew phase. Indy can go wherever. He sleeps all over the place. Sometimes on the bed, sometimes in another room(maybe because I'm snoring???), sometimes in his/Callans cozy bed

I used to let the dogs into bed with us, occasionally, but now that I am a "woman of a certain age", I can't stand the extra heat. Phoebe, the westie, comes up if I am having a nap as she is content to stay on hubby's side of the bed but otherwise, they have their cozy beds on the floor beside my bed and seem content to be allowed to be that close.

Absolutely

My baby boy snuggles up in bed with me every night. I'm not so sure I could easily sleep without him, I've gotten used to it so fast. :)
