I bought an Amaze-A-Ball last week for Cadbury

Not from that company, btw, but Pets at Home. Anyway, I wanted another activity ball because I like to give Cadbury things to do during the winter when the weather is too yucky for him to play outside much. He has a hard activity ball that you just fill and leave him to roll around, and then I spotted this.

Instead of just filling this ball and letting the stuff fall out, it has a zigzag pattern inside so the dog has to knock it in the right way to get the treats to fall out. Great for dogs that like to use their paws as well as their brains.

The only disadvantage is that you can't put in too many treats. I worked out I can put in 12 pieces of small kibble (I use Iams), any more and the treats just fall straight out. So it doesn't last as long as Cadbury's other treat ball, but it definitely gets him thinking.

Plus, because it is rubber, once he has finished off the treats he will bring it to me and I can throw it for him and it bounces really well and has him leaping all over the garden!

So if you are looking for a new activity ball I recommend this one as being fun, reasonably priced and durable. I probably should have saved it as a Christmas present for him :o

I haven't tried that exact same ball, but I did buy one kind of like it once. It wiggled, bounced, and moved around the room. Smudge's ears perked up and then he turned around and picked up the Tootsie Roll chew toy and walked away. I give up. Smudge just isn't a ball playing kind of sheltie I guess.

thanks! I've been looking for a new toy. Bailey seems to be bored with all her toys already. I think I will pick one up.

With winter coming, I'm looking for new toys as well. I posted a thread a week or so ago, but so far I'm still coming up kinda blank.

I think I'm going to go back to the "101 things to do with a box". The only problem is that I can't leave a box lying around while I'm not there. Indy will eat it.

The best that I'm thinking of actually helps keep my house clean....I'm seriously thinking about a Roomba! I don't know how noisy it is though. If its fairly quiet, it might work great! I can schedule it to go off at 2 p.m. to give the boys an afternoon workout. I was also told today that you can now get them with webcams, so that you can monitor while you are away! I haven't checked that out to see if its true, but wouldn't THAT be something!

Are you serious?! I was talking to Mom yesterday about getting one! They just finished remodeling their bedroom, and they have a hard time getting the vacuum around the furniture. I told her we should try one. I said if it doesn't work out Smudge could play with it! They even make one for dog hair!

I have heard mixed reviews on all of the Roombas. I still want one though. People say the sensors get messed up, they sometimes don't work on carpet, and the brushes always need cleaning.

It was true that they have the technology and beta'd them and wanted to produce them, but we have one more victim of economic hardship.

I did notice that the color is strikingly similar to my husband's car... 'burnt orange metallic' if I remember the term correctly. He would have loved one.

My thought, Barb, is that you could get a cat. It will be the boys' pet. And just like children, they won't clean the litter box (but they have some nice auto ones like the CatGenie that would be worth it). But they would have a fun time wondering what that thing that is looking on them so condescendingly is. There are plenty of adult kitties in shelters who are dog-socialized!!

And neat toy! I think I'm going to have to go look at one (or two, as they tend to wrestle over only one toy).
