So when I started beginning obedience classes at our local training club everything was soo peachy Lexi had already learned most of the basic commands and seemed to be a little ahead of the class..... then we started intermediate obedience. Tonight was the first night of this class, and I swear I had a 30 lb catfish on the end of my leash than a dog. She was everywhere. I actually STRUGGLED twice to get her under control. I was sort of embarrassed, but most dogs in the class are under 2 so everyone was having a difficult time. Not to mention, mine was the second smallest there.. lots of big dogs. Regardless of the other dogs, she was going crazy. Wow is pretty much all I can say. I talked to my trainer after class, and she gave such good advice. I'm just glad I was eventually able to get her under control. Anyone else have some crazy boogers out there?

omg yes i have one crazy monster dog, i always get so frusterated when Bandit doesnt do his best in Novice 1, cause he always does his best at the house, i even train him at the dog training facility before class starts an yet he still acts like a lil rambunctious fart sometimes. but really he's very smart and knows the exercises very well, its just getting his focus and attention on me an not on everything else in the class.
He has had some good nights that were very impressive.
When you know your dog does very well at the exercises at home, you really want them to perform there best all the time, and that doesnt always happen. There going to have there bad days, all you can do is keep training them

Oh yes! Bacca was the same when I had him in school. At home he did every thing fine. Got to school and everything flew out the window. He was distracted, even a basic down was beyond him.

The trainer was somewhat condensendng telling me that I really should practice more at home! Yipes!

The only thing that he excelled at was leash walking. He is beauty in motion! Put all the other pups to shame (especially that oh-so-perfect pug!)

HAHA. Lexi is such a goofball.. it was almost entertaining. I take her to classes and stuff because it keeps her active and have fun. She's got the fun part down!

Just know you're in good (pardon the pun) company. Adolescence is tough, being in a new place with strange dogs is extremely distracting, and things will be better as she gets more familiar with it all. Heck, Snap and I are going through Novice Obedience now for the third time (!!!), for continued socialization with new dogs. I'm a big fan of the "go to mat" concept in Control Unleashed and I get to class early enough to feed him his dinner kibble by kibble on his mat. That way he doesn't get worked up when other dogs enter the facility.

Awwww, you guys are depressing me! I thought shelties were supposed to be easy to train?

I keep threatening Cadbury that he is being traded in for a sheltie, especially as we have had two rubbish agility sessions. These two new dogs have joined (labradoodle & black lab) and apparently they are his bestest mates ever and he tries to drag me across the ground to get to them. He nearly pulled me through a tyre jump today, more than once!

So I tell him he is going to be swopped and he just looks at me and goes "yeah right, pull the other one, what's for tea?"

There is no hope for me.......
