I agree.. And most rescues do a lot of background checks, home visits, etc. before they place the puppy. I have heard many people complain about what they have to go through in order to get a puppy from a rescue, but the sad truth is, they have to because of people like her.
 
The animal control people forwarded the case to a Travis County detective and I left him a voicemail as he's trying to get in touch w/me also. It seems like it's on the right path. If anything she will get fined for breeding animals without a license because we all know she doesn't have that. She doesn't even give her dogs their shots or other routine medical care. I take this just as seriously as children being abused and neglected as these animals can't defend themselves against people like her and I feel if I can stop one person then that's better than none.
 
I was going to get a Sheltie through rescue but I don't know if I could of passed that rigorous background check. I have a cat and when she was a baby she had a bad reaction to one of her shots and since then I've only given her rabies shots and they prefer for you to have a shot record that has all shots and goes back as long as you've had the animal. I agree that anytime you're dealing with a dog that can go for a lot of money it attracts sleezy scammers like her.
 
Maggie, you're doing an awesome job. Not only are you doing great at raising these babies, but you're following up on this crazy woman.

I just wanted to say be careful. These people are not like normal people--she will probably go to great lengths to "stay in business" and if she knows you are behind all these investigations, it could be trouble. I would forward that voicemail on to the police. It may not technically be harassment, but it is intimidation. If something were to happen, it could be used against her.
 
When I got Emma, I had to do a puppy application and provide a vet reference, which I don't think Heather ever did as I did the application before church on a Sunday and heard back that afternnon that I had passed it. Then one of her friends ( who is a breeder and works for Sheltie Rescue in Ontario) did a home check for her. I am glad she was so strict. Hopefully now this is on the right path for you and there will be resolution.

I don't think they could hold it against you if your cat reacted to a vaccine and you chose not to get the vaccinations. All you could have done was ask about that. May be some of the members here who do Sheltie Resuce could clarify that for you.
 
My one cat Mindy can not be vaccinated due to a severe aniphylaxic (sp?) reaction to them. Most animal rescue organizations understand when you have a Vet referrence, medically documented reason why a pet can't be vaccinated.

I am SOOOO thankful you have found homes for these precious little babies and didn't go through CL. The waiting for me is intense and just a little excited :o.
 
Just want to say the latest pic is lovely and a BIG WELL DONE for trying to get something done about this woman and following it up, even when you have your hands full with the babies. So many people get angry but never get round to doing anything about it. As you say...one less person doing this kind of thing still makes a difference when you think of all the people she has scammed and animals which have probably suffered.
 
Ashley, I tink you are spot on about the voice mail. She was probably careful in how she worded what she said, but what she said can be construed as harrassment, given what has happened with her in the past. It may take a while, but I can't way to hear the end of this saga with this woman. I feel so sorry for the owners who have ended up with animals that need expensive care and some who have probably put the animals down because of the expense, no matter how much they cared for them.
 
I agree with Ashley that you need to let the police know about that phone call- she sounds like a whacko for sure and takes such advantage of people a real scammer. Glad you have homes for the puppies and look foreward to more pics.
 
Hold onto that voicemail, Mary, and whatever you do, don't delete it. I would make sure the police have it. She doesn't have to threaten you in words...just saying she knows where you live is an implied threat.

Don't mess around with this lady. Who knows what she's mixed up in. I'd call the detective you've already spoken to and report this call. It's great to have the name of one person in the police that you can talk to. Please be careful.
