Beckon Debuts at College

We use The Art of Raising a Puppy. But what really changed how I relate to Bear the Big Red Dog and our Shelties is I and Dog. From that spiritual book, I started the journey toward understanding how I can see my relationship with God reflected in my relationship with my dogs. The one can strengthen the other so beautifully. The monks' books have helped me become a better friend to my furkids...and, I hope, a better person.

I have to admit, though, Beckon is really smart.

I see that the Monks have released their newest book entitled "Dogs and Devotion". Has anyone had a chance to look through it yet ?

The most important thing I learned was to respect my Sheltie -- each and every one -- as a distinct individual who is the special creation of a loving God. Since God made my Sheltie, I have a duty to treat her with dignity, love, patience and respect; she is a gift, not a possession. That means putting myself in her position as she learns and grows, seeking to understand why she does what she does. My relationship with my Sheltie is an extension of my relationship with God.
