Bentley is sick

Hope today is a better day for Bently and that Lexi is not getting sick to but just having sympathy for her brother. Hugs to you all.

Don't I know the feeling of waiting around for poop! :o Hope Bentley poops and feels better soon! Has his appetite improved and has the throwing up stopped?

You know, Bentley never lost his appetite! I didn't feed him for 2 meals, but he was definitely hungry. Of course hours before his stomach surgery he was hungry too. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing--he'll eat no matter how he feels!

And yes, the throwing up and diarrhea has stopped. But, he hasn't pooped since Saturday. I'm going to try to come home at lunch to check on him. I am feeding him chicken and rice, plus he was taking anti-diarrheal, but I wish he would go to make me feel better!

I'm so glad he is doing much better! Hopefully he poops for you today. Don't be too worried, I imagine it may be cause you held back on the food when he started being sick.

Little Lexi must have felt how worried you guys were and is probably trying to protect and reassure you. I'm sending positive thoughts for her to stay healthy and for Bentley to get back on his feet 100% (including a nice poop for you today)!

Norovirus

Nasty bug here in NJ and other places I am sure. Wonder if he got the norovirus. The virus is just another way of saying that if people don't wash their hands, we all get sick!

I wash all our stuff, even vegetables. I might be coming off as a little obsessive here, but having worked so long in a hospital, I gleaned a little info along the way.

Hope that today is a solid poop day and all is well.

First too much and then too little. Hopefully he'll get the "just right" soon. Healing thoughts from Tinsel and me.

Gross story ahead--a mystery

Okay, this might be too gross...but I have to share this story!

Today I got home from work and immediately let Bentley out of the kitchen. I then let Lexi out of her crate, and ignored them for maybe 1-2 minutes (but kept one eye on them--though not 100% of the time). I then went and got Bentley's leash, and took him and Lexi both outside.

Lexi took a milli-second before she went out (which is odd for her) and she came out with something in her mouth. She happily gave it up when I asked her to, and I just assumed she had picked up something in the yard (I just figured it was a piece of trash--it was this long orange rubbery thin thing).

We all went back inside (still no poop from Bentley) and I started to get dinner ready. I looked over and Lexi was eating something. Normally it's just a fuzz or a crumb but something told me to look harder, and I pulled this long thing out of her throat. It was another piece of whatever she had when we were outside!

I had no idea where she had gotten it from. I figured at this point that Bentley must have thrown it up, and it's what was making his stomach hurt the whole time. So I was actually happy thinking it was all over. I fed the dogs (they ate normally) and then went to get them some new water.

And in the water bowl was more pieces of that thing! And the water was yellow. So whoever it was threw up in the water bowl! But, neither dog has access to that water bowl during the day, so they must have done it in the 1-2 minutes that I wasn't watching them when I first walked in.

My first thought, like I mentioned, was that it was Bentley since he has been sick...but then I thought about how Bentley never throws up quickly or quietly (it had to have been both because our house is small and I was never more than 10 feet away from them.) And Lexi has been acting very odd--following me around, etc... In fact, I started typing this post and she was being so needy that I sat on the floor of the kitchen with her and she sat in my lap. But she is eating and going to the bathroom totally normally.

Plus, this sounds weird, but she seems considerate enough to throw up in the water bowl (literally no clean up!) She was also burping and looking particularly worried.

My husband and I think it must be one of two things:

1--The liner of a meat wrapper--Bentley ate the rest of the chicken and it made him sick and Lexi ate the wrapper OR
2--Lexi ate the outside of one of those cheap spiral rawhides, and Bentley being sick is unrelated.

I am so perplexed!

I guess this is why Lexi has been following you her belly must have been hurting from what ever they both got into. I wonder what it was? Are there any neighbors that could have given them something over the fence without you knowing? Like maybe the kids you had trouble with when you first moved there? I hope all is ok. Can you take it to the vet and see if he can tell?

I am just getting to this thread.

I am so sorry to hear that Bentley is sick. I sure do hope that Lexi and Bentley didn't ingest anything too horrible.

Please keep us updated.

You know, I don't think so. Neither is ever out without me watching them.

I'm going to keep an eye on them both tonight...the fact that neither is showing any other symptoms seems like a good sign. Like I said, Lexi is eating, going to the bathroom, and playing the exact same as normal. She and Bentley chased each other around the yard when I was home!
