I got a couple cute videos of my Pierre up!

With the first, I made bacon this morning. My hubby is home today (military schedules are funky) so I made him a special breakfast. Of course, the babies wanted a part of it.

The pics are just too cute not to share. I know these aren't of my Sheltie, but he's not home yet. I guess this is just a preview of what is to come... :P

It's generally a good indication, but no guarantee. Both my boys pedigrees are champion-based, and were planned for show. However, both my boys exceed the 16"
 
I was always told that with shelties you never know about the puppies size as compared to the parents. So who knows!

Pierre is sure a darling. Very cute little papillon. As far as heights go on shelties, most litters will have some taller than the parents, some smaller than the parents, and some sized like the parents. You can't even get a very good guess at size until they are about 3-4 months old. If you pick a small puppy and the parents are small, you should have a good chance of getting a small sheltie. Only problem is that some shelties that are very small are not as healthy as the medium size shelties. Hopefully, your breeder will be able to help you to pick the best one for you.

And whatever size Sheltie we get, we'll be happy. I just hope that he isn't too big to be a safe companion for Pierre. That was our main concern.

On other news - my kitty Chancellor (seen in pic below with Pierre's crate behind him, sitting under the high top table) has a tumor. He has lost just over half his weight in the last year and a half or so. He was 22 lbs, now down to 10 lbs. We are over $400 in with blood tests and x-rays and can't really decide on the next step. He is happy, eats, sleeps, and plays. You wouldn't know there was a problem if you didn't know his previous weight, you just might think he was skinny. The vet said we could do an ultrasound or labaroscopic exploration. If the ultrasound shows a mass (clearly visible on x-rays, so I don't see the point), they would want to do the latter, which costs about $800-900. If it is just fat, it may be recommended to remove or just leave. But because of the weight loss (and some vomiting), the vet thinks it is a cancer. In that case, we probably won't operate. It would just be a waiting game of watching him until we can see that he is in discomfort or pain and then putting him down.

My husband's take is that we do nothing for the moment, assume it is cancer (everything points to it), and let him live happy until he isn't. While I agree to some extent, I kind of want to know whether it is or not because Chance could be in pain now. Then again, if he is - what would we be able to do? Is it selfish that after nursing Chancellor back to health when I got him, I don't want to give him up yet?

Oh, Lovely, that is such a difficult call to make! Of course it isn't selfish to want to cherish a beloved furfriend as long as you can. When Lassie, our beloved Collie, was failing, we kept her comfortable. She was never in pain; what pushed our decision to put her to sleep was when we relized that within 48 hours, she would no longer be able to stand because of weakness. If Lassie couldn't walk, her dignity would have been irreparably compromised. We never wanted her to know she couldn't walk, so even though she wasn't in pain and probably could have lived a while longer, we chose to spare her gallant spirit. Only you know what's right for your dear Chancellor, and together, you'll make the right call. :sadsmile:
