brilliant recall

I know what you mean, Maia is mortified if I even restrain her! So I cannot do restrained recalls with her often at all. It does not motivate her to run faster at all, it does the opposite and shuts her down! I was told to restrain her and get her to run to her food (which is raw) and even that did not motivate her to run fast. Some dogs, just don't like being restrained I think...

It was a reminder that there are various methods we can use to train our negatives.

We've all seen some of the worst of Caesar, but I've also endorsed some of his other, less aggressive technique, for thos instant moments when you need control.

But this reminded me that more permanent training is mostly positive reinforcement....teaching them "value". Where I'm No. 1! Not so different from Caesar, really - he teaches the same thing, but more negatively.

Update on brilliant recall SG- I did ended up signing, it is brilliance all the way, web presentation is superbly organized, whole thing set up as a forum, not unlike this one, there is discussions under each game, general discussions, ask Susan section, FAQ section is worth the book in itself, downloadable journal notes. People have signed from all over the world, seems to be fun meeting this way, many people do agility. Great way to learn things when reading other people training problems and solutions.
here is cookie recipe page from previous recall page
http://susangarrettdogagility.com/2010/06/cookies-anyone/ i know I am going to be making sardine ones, so many people reported dogs loving it and I need to up my treats to new heights:lol:

Should not been surprised but I am at how many people are upgrading to Inner Circle.... after everything said and done it is 10 private classes worth but you will get support of SG group for entire year.

It is VERY VERY different from Caesar, everything about it is.
Just because he is not presently kicking a dog, or poking it.. or getting bitten by one.. doesn't mean he isn't enforcing flooding or shutting down a dog.. so that a dog is never going to offer any other behaviours other than he is taught what not to do. Those dogs will NOT be performance dogs and will definitely be frustrated and hard to read down the road

I just looked at what was online and I must not be at the right place for the free stuff as all I got in my email was more like an infomercial and to directed me to sign up for classes. I want the free stuff, what did I do wrong? Just curious what type of games does she want you to play?

I guess I'm not seeing the big value yet. Everything in the video was all stuff they taught in puppy school.

I guess I was looking for something more "exotic" and "unique" that help shape the behaviours. Maybe that's still to come?

and yet, we do not have dogs that will drop into sit position during full run out chase with other dogs just because they want to please their human...
Simple does not mean easy. I think it is one of the best features about SG training, she breaks training into easy to follow patterns which DO MAKE a world of difference.
the way I see it, I am getting camp at Say YES training without traveling and lodging expences. My dogs travel with me everywhere and I can't afford not to have a brilliant recall so I am trying...

I also thought that alot of the stuff she taught we already knew, but the thing I found she does is how she layers them together to get a dog that is not only driven but has self control (a balanced dog). Coz while I did all of her self control exercises with Romeo way before her e-course, I completely left out the "drive" games, which got me a really slow unmotivated dog. SG showed me where I had gone wrong and how to get his drive back. It's probably something that's not as important to dogs that aren't doing dog sports, but you would still want that drive from a dog when you call it to you!

There were all these little things that she said that made sense and when you take on her tips, understanding the logic behind them, and then implementing them into your training with the dog, they really make a difference.

I think that people are waiting for some magical recipe and/or magical tool, but the relationship itself is the most important and yep, the way you work with your dog....
I really enjoyed first three parts of webinar, it was quite educational and made me think about where is value for my dog. I love Susan for givin it out for free.
Though, 4th part was nothing else, but marketing, I didn't even finish watching it. Still I think I will rather get her book than spending so much money on seminar. I believe she would show me a lot of useful things I can do with my dog, but I also believe I can have better relationship w/ or w/o it.
The new course looks awesome, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it SheltieChe. :smile2:
