Brooke - not good news

Well, just to lighten things up a bit - it was a struggle to feed her this morning - bread with peanut butter and a small jar of baby food is what finally went down. Fed her a bit for lunch, then decided to do Nosework practice with Faith and Eli while Brooke was sound asleep. I didn't think she had the energy, or wanted the treats, so I thought it was best that way.

No sooner did we have the boxes set up on the outside patio and the treats ready to go when guess who woke up and was all anxious to play? We have to shut them in separate rooms while we practice with one at a time. I thought "Hmmmmm, we'll see how this goes!" So we did Faith first, then Eli, and then made some easy hides for Brooke. Well she DID GREAT. And, she ATE all the treats. I wanted to keep going just so she'd EAT!!! Lots of beef jerky strip down the hatch, I'm happy to say. She is napping it all off now.

so many ups and downs! i am in the midst of those, too. tonite Gavin was not very cooperative when we got to baseball diamond. and when i got home he refused to jump out of his stroller. i even left him in garage for 5 minutes and he was still in there! it’s enough to make you pull your hair out :)

I always picked up Mr Chance to move him in or out of his stroller as I was so fearful he might hurt his back as he had bone spurs. So hard when they get to this point in life.

I do, too. Except for Sunday when Gavin beat me to it and jumped in and out on his own. I was happy about that. And then it was disappointing when he didn't do that today. Like I said, ups and downs. And I never know what all these things they mean...

Oh, my stroller is VERY low to the ground. Maybe 6 inches?

Nosework class was cancelled, due to the freeway being closed because of a stand-off with a guy with a high powered rifle - all of about 2 miles up the street!!! What a crazy, crazy world.

Actually, none of mine could have gone because Eli gave Brooke his kennel cough. As if she didn't have enough to deal with, but it seems to be a bit less than it was.

She is about the same, less energetic, eating baby food and peanut butter, occasionally a dog cookie. Planning a stroller ride this evening. I know time is growing short. She still follows me from room to room if she's awake, and I did get a small face wash this morning.

She is fading now. Gums are very pale even with the emergency pill. She went out to potty and laid down afterwards; I had to carry her back in. I did get some baby food and peanut butter into her but I have a feeling she will now refuse all food. Her abdomen is so distended. Her belly is slowly filling with blood I think. I scrutinize her for signs of pain, but I don't see any. She did come into the den when she heard me get home from the grocery store.

She just wants to sleep, I cover her with a tiny fleece blanket to keep her warm. Have been stroking her and crying, telling her what a good dog she is and how this just isn't fair. A look of resignation is in her eyes. Still praying non-stop for a peaceful passing for my girl. Oh, such heartache.

I have pain medication for her if she needs it.

Sharon, I am so very sorry to hear this news. Although you knew this day would come it still hurts to the core.
I am so wishing for a peaceful end at home with you and not an emergency room visit.
I am just welling up with tears knowing what you are experiencing.
Know our love and prayers are with you and dear Brooke.

So glad you have pain meds available.

Take care
