Brooke - not good news

My beautiful spunky girl is near the end I fear. She had a very big bleed last night. Had to give two emergency pills about 6 hours apart. I could tell she was in pain (retracting her abdomen) so I gave her the injection of buprenorphine. It knocked her out. We slept with her in the living room, I was too afraid to lift her onto the bed. She didn't move from about 11:30 PM until 6:45 AM this morning.

Her gums are very pale, and the drugs made her dopey, so it's hard to tell if her being very lethargic is just her illness or a combination. It should wear off by tonight if it's the drug. She did actually eat some peanut butter and some Happy Howies, which is a meat roll that we dice up for Nosework treats. She has been out to potty twice, but then right back down.

I have no end-of-life experience with this type of cancer so I just don't know what to expect. I was led to believe she'd have an uncontrollable bleed, and that would be it. Not a horribly painful way to go, especially if I can get the narcotic into her. I keep praying she'll go in her sleep. This is the hardest friggin' part. I hate playing God. "Is it now?" I figure as long as she'll eat a little, and potty, and not be in pain, that we'll support her at home.

Please, all who can, say a prayer for my wonderful girl who deserved to live more of her golden years, but who definitely deserves a peaceful passing. Hard to stop crying now.

No matter what happens, you gave Brooke extra time she would not have had otherwise, and she enjoyed it.
It doesn't make it easier, I know, but we all are in awe of you and your love and support of your girl.

Thinking of you..Hoping whatever happens is as peaceful as possible.

Sharon, we just never know...

With the cancer Laddie had he was only given a few months to live. He lasted for 9 months...
I thought his leg would just shatter from the cancer. In the end, the cancer had spread to his spleen and he had a massive bleed out. His gums were white. As we rushed him to emergency we knew it was the end. The blessing was having him 6 months longer. The end was very quick. No matter what, we give them every opportunity.

Your dear Brooke ... I feel just terrible knowing what you are going through... we all just dread this time...

I kept asking everyone, is it time? NO one but YOU can answer that question. As long as she is not in pain and can eat, drink and potty there is hope. Even if only for a short time longer. I wish I would be there to give you a big hug and kiss sweet little Brooke's snout!

Loving care, prayers, and compassion being sent your way... Virtual hugs, Gloria

Sharon, all my love and prayers for Brooke and for you. This is a devastating journey that you are on, knowing that the end will only be sadness. But, try to hang onto the fact that Brooke's life has been filled with joy and love...a life well lived to the fullest. That is the gift you have given her and she is so blessed to be your little girl.
