Colon Cancer

Our family has not received any news from the pathologist yet....still patiently waiting. :( They think (not 100% sure) it is a fast growing tumor that will not respond to chemo...which they do not give him long...but feel we should get him neutered???? That is really confusing to us...but we are just waiting on the pathologist to confirm or say chemo can treat this type of cancer. They think the cancer spread to the lymph nodes in his stomach. They are really puzzled b/c they felt that Dakota should have cancer throughout his body....and he does not. They also are telling us that Dakota should not be playing, eating, drinking, experiencing weight loss, etc. He is not doing any of this at all. That is a blessing to us. My family is just praying for a miracle right now...we all love him so much!!
FedAce- I was misinfomed about the surgery. If it turns out to be the cancer they feel he has (diagnosed this by x-ray..waiting onn biopsy results) he can have surgery...but it would only extend Dakota's life by 3 weeks to 9 mths. We would not put him through surgery because that would be helping us not him. Chemo is only an option if it is one type of the cancer...not the kind they think he has. So if it all turns out to be true...we will give him the best quality of life possible (and continue praying!!). They want him on pain pills right now from the biopsy they took...but might take him off because he is not in any pain (right now). We will also have to continue stool softners.

All I can say is nothing is taking away my faith/trust. I will continue to pray to the last day...and so will my family!! I will let everyone know as soon as results come in...but things could always change.

I do not know..they seem pretty sure it is fast growing. I was a little unclear about the lymph nodes. They are not certain that they are not swollen because of the cyst/infection he has in his prostate. They did whatever they do to tell and will give us the results on that...they just really did not know an answer for that yet. The Dr. sits there and tells us if it is the fast growing (which they think) it should have already spread to his lungs/etc. because they feel it is progressed far. I really feel they just are not sure without the results..and that is understandable. They want Dakota to have all of these symptoms he is not showing. We understand cancer symptoms worsen...but we are not going to tell them he is showing them now when he is not.
There are 2 types of cancer Dakota can have. One type will not respond to chemo so that would not even be an option. The other type of cancer will respond and they have had great results in the chemo with dogs.
As far as it being his time....we have been through this process a few times and know when it is time. I actually had one pet in the past who continued to eat and I had to go with my gut feelings on it. We have had to put down other pets in the past and never want them to suffer. I know my last post was all over the place...I was trying to remember details as they popped into my head.
We have no results yet...we have opinions...so therefore I can't tell you what our options are. I am going off of Thursdays long adventure...so chemo may not even be an option. I hope its curable or a misdiagnosis...we will just pray for Dakota's health.

Becky... I can imagine the struggle you are going through with the waiting. I feel for you. I would ask specifically, when you talk with your vet, why they think Dakota should be neutered at this point and what it would accomplish. It does seem like putting him through unnecessary surgery if there isn't a high reward in quality or duration of life.

Good thoughts and prayers coming your way....

I agree with Ann. I am baffled as to why they would want him neutered at this point?

Becky, Prayers are remaining with you and Dakota !

You have the right attitude. I hope along with others that it's a misdiagnosis. He sounds like other than the enlarged tumor that he's feeling quite well. That is a positive thing and as long as he's feeling well . God Bless and watch over you, Dakota and your family during this very trying time.

I agree, the Vets can be clueless. I received Multiple bad Advice for my last dog that died of Liver cancer before i found 1 very experienced Doctor that knew what she was talking about....

Well the specialists called a couple hrs ago. They confirmed the cancer had spread to a few lymph nodes and that he in fact did have an infection in the cyst located in the prostate. The appt. is at 11:00 in the morning to go over our options and for them to answer our questions
As far as the family goes....we are really torn up over this especially my parents. We are not giving up though...we know Jesus can heal and are praying for a miracle. Please continue to pray for Dakotas health and my family. Dakota is not just a pet to our family...Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers! It really helps to hear so many of you praying for Dakota!
I will let everyone know what is going on tomm. :confused2:
