Colonel Underpants: The New Chapter

Chris, Sketch sends Beckon a 3 paw salute. Sketch also got to keep his hip joint and once his fur grew back in people didn't even notice he was missing a leg until he hopped and he could run as fast as he did before he lost his leg. Beckon has a great life ahead once past the first couple of recoup weeks and with his happy spirit he may sail through the next couple of weeks with little or no "down" time. I am so thankful the surgery went without any complications.
Many hugs, Trini
Trini, you have no idea what a support to us you've been!
Such good news, don't know why I'm crying though! You are both so very brave, hope the rest of his journey goes smoothly.
Caro, because you love us and are happy as we are!!

Beckon is out of surgery. Dr. Robbins of Catoctin Veterinary Clinic said it went very smoothly. He was able to keep the hip joint, so Beckon will have a smooth, rounded rear, and his "privates" will be shielded. I can't thank each of you enough for the support and love you poured out to Beckon and me. You have been a part of my family for so long -- more than 14 years!

Now we begin the next steps: recovery, rehab and reintegration into new and important work!

What a relief that the surgery went well without any complications!

knowing he will be home with you tonight makes my heart and I am sure yours, rest easier.

I know you will be by his side tonight and for the coming weeks and months through rehab.

Beckon is one strong boy. Like Trini mentioned, he will be up and running around as if he had all fours. You have to love dogs for their resilience. God knows how we could learn so much from them.

Soft pats and sweet virtual kisses on his snout. Thank you so much for keeping us updated. All of us are pulling for you both. Virtual hugs to you.

Thank god it was uneventful, and for sparing the hip joint. Sending continued wishes for a fast recovery. Dogs really do bounce back without all the psychological baggage people have. I am confident he will be up and keeping the troops in line before you know it. :hugs

Caro, because you love us and are happy as we are!!
:hugs Oh, you made me cry all over again. I am happy, but sad too. I know they manage because they are such stoic things and live in the moment. But also things are never the same, I know that from when Tully had her hip done. Maybe Beckon can become a therapy dog too.

Nothing keeps the Colonel down! Beckon had a great night -- no indications of pain. I have sub-q pain meds I'm giving every 12 hours, plus antibiotics, etc. He's eaten dinner last night and breakfast this morning. He's been out to pee and poop. And RUN!! I kept having to say, "No! Come!" Tail wagging, looking for the perfect spot. It's going to be a challenge keeping him to a slower pace, but the experts do say it's easier at first for tripaws to run than walk. His incision looks great, and his balance improves by the hour. He had a good night -- I'm the one who kept waking up.

Nurse Layla slept downstairs by his x-pen, keeping close to both of us. He hates his inflatable collar, but I ordered a onesie from Amazon that will be here today. That should help immensely.

All your prayers have been applied to great effect, and we thank you!

I am totally shocked at how quickly he recovered! What hugely positive result! I am over the moon happy for you both.

Glad you are able to give sub-q fluids at home so he does not have to visit the vet anytime soon.

Thank you again for keeping us updated as know your hands are full at the moment!
