Cost for Grooming?

From now on, when I bring the dogs to the groomer it will be bathing only.

They did an ok job on Indy, but on Bacca, they trimmed his ruff (uneven) and all the feathers on his front legs and belly (and they were just starting to grow in nicely).

Grooming for a Sheltie around here is $60, unless you go to a PetSmart. It is cheaper there, but I would never do that. They have so many lawsuits against them for negligence while grooming.

I actually use a mobile groomer, because I am so paranoid that the groomers would not protect my dog from other dogs that may hurt them. I am kind of a control freak with my girls, and I like to be able to see them at all times. The idea of leaving them...with other people and other dogs that I cannot "spot" check, bothers me.

And for my hair, lol, it costs about $200 for a foil and cut including tip. CRAZINESS!!!!

That's insane. You people need to come to my hairstylist. He looks nice and does nice work. :biggrin2:

I love to shop at PetSmart, but it will be a cold day in a hot oven before I'd ever let them touch my dog with their grooming salon. :uhoh: I've heard so many bad things about them it isn't even funny. They have good customer service, but don't let them groom your dog!

Grooming

I have had Shadow done at PetSmart a couple of time when my breeder could not do it and thought they did a decent job. I told what to do and they did it.Would I go again if my breeder could not do it and I would say Yes.

I've been in the stores, and I will tell ya..I don't know what was going on in that grooming salon in the back, but the poor dog was screaming so,it just bothered me to the point, that it was a real distraction.

All I could think..oh my god,if the owners could hear thier babes scream like that, they would be furious. I know I would be livid.

We do have a groomer, although we have not had to use her in sometime. But I'm sure eventually Trapp will make a visit there. I just love this lady, she does it at home. She has a seperate building for her grooming buisenss.

I would be so P*** if anyone did that to my dog.
Tonite I had a conversation with a gal that works in the pharmacy in Walmart. She was telling me about thier Maltipoo puppy that they took to a grooming place here in town. She said they ruined her coat,by uneven cutting, and in one place she had a near bald spot.

I gave her the name of our groomer. I will tell ya,if i ever had a bad experiance with a groomer that way, they would want to pray that they would not be the same space as me, cause I would definately have a NY moment with them.

I know the hair grows back, but its the point of it all.

We have many dogs that scream. those that are screaming are usually the ones that are wagging their tails and give us kisses. they are just soooo hyper and want our attention all the time. they hate being caged up while they wait to be groomed. they want our attention NOW! LOL

I do not understand how you cut a maltipoo uneven. its a guard that snaps onto the clippers. you cannot get them uneven! maybe she was hand scissoring for some reason? and how do you ruin a coat by an uneven cut? I swear in a month you will probably not be able to tell anyway.

sorry guys! dog groomer here, so it gets a bit personal!

no groomer puts dogs together. if they do, they have some serious issues!

Ruskuslvr,

Thanks for your perspective.

I can only imagine the range of pups that you are presented with to groom. You must, I'm sure, have challenging pups to deal with. What do you do when a client wants nails trimmed but the pup won't have anything to do with it. Do you trim the nails and put up with the whining, screaming, or otherwise?

Curious minds want to know!
