Deciding on euthanasia is horrible

It is horrible, but try to look on it the greatest gift you can give your beloved Toby. The gift of a dignified and peaceful passing. When the time comes he will let you know that he is tired and needs to leave. For all that we ever do for them, this requires the most love and courage, but also means the most too. Thinking of you and Toby :hugs

My heart is just breaking over your post of Toby's deteriorating condition.

It is the most agonizing decision we must make when owning a beloved pet.

I hope and pray that you find peace with this decision that is now before you.

When my dear Billy was passing of a massive gall bladder attack and was in intensive care for 1 week... I finally brought him home he got worse and stopped eating for four days... he could not even keep a pill down. He was so weak and I could no longer watch him slowly die of starvation. My grandmothers rosary was around his neck as I was with him until the end.

Please know that he will let you know when it is time. Until then...
Blessings and virtual hugs to you, Toby, and your family.

Our pups will do so much for us..even go on living when they do not want to anymore. My previous dog kept on living just because he knew I wanted him to.

Sometimes, we have to make that decision for them because they are being unselfish :(

:cry::cry::cry:

So sorry that it has come to this time for your Toby; it is so hard to say goodbye to the best dogs in the world. I have been there to the end with all of my dear dogs, and I consider it the last act of love I can give, but it is hard. Thank heavens I have a vet who understands and is so gentle and loving when the time comes. Every one of us here would give you hugs and love if we were near, but know that we all are with you in heart.

Wow what a tremendous outpouring of love and support. I am so humbled and grateful. It does help. it is soon but at least I got him eating a bit. The slightest decline and that is it. I have had the benefit of a long goodbye and the joy of him defying odds twice. Once at 8 when he had immune mediated hemolytic anemia and again at 14 with liver cancer and lasting so much longer with wuality of life. I agree inam very fortunate he is not senile. I am so lucky to have had the depth of this relationship.... So many never do, not even the head of the humane society! If nothing else this delay has allowed my kids a final goodbye and the xrays, strangely, did give me peace and my oldest who os struggling most with this of my three kids. At least i know nothing more can be done. Despite everything he made it to 15 and 7 months. Without his devotional to family and especially to me,that would never have happened. My mom says he is hanging on for me and just needs to know i will be ok. In recent weeks he has been sooo wanting to be pet that i do suspect he knows.

Thank you

This. I haven't faced this yet, but Fasb's health is precarious enough that we've started thinking about it. I think the first time I start thinking seriously about putting Fasb to sleep will be the last time I think about putting Fasb to sleep. It depends on the specifics of the situation, of course, but I don't want Fasb to linger or suffer more than absolutely necessary. The reality of the situation is likely to be that, by the time his condition deteriorates to the point where I have to wonder if it is time, he probably won't have long left no matter what I do and the time he does have won't be quality time.

Big hugs to you. I know how difficult this is. One of the bravest things any of us ever have to do.
If he isn't interested in solid food, maybe try some broth and frozen fruit bars to keep him hydrated.

I am so sorry that you and Toby are facing this. Take care.
Prayers for you and your children.

I am so so sorry for you, I went through this just last March with my 14 1/2 year old cocker spaniel. It was the hardest decision I had to make but in the end I did it to end her suffering. They are there for us no matter the day we are having, always with a wag of the tail making us feel better, it's so hard to say goodbye.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I agree it is a very difficult decision.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I know when Hollie got suddenly ill the vet told us it was her gallbladder and she was already in liver failure. We took her home and within a day we just knew we had to end her suffering. She some how just told us, we could tell by the look in her eyes that it was time. I laid on the floor with her and just brushed her and told her it was OK to leave us. You will know when it is time.

Prayers and hugs being sent to you.
