Dog Wheelchair

He wasn't struggling at all during the walk..before he would start to get a bit winded and labor towards the end.
So I am hopeful that we have found the perfect adjustments.
He was even a bit faster than before.

We went to the local baseball fields for some grass walk time. He kept walking, though. He didn't want to turn around and go back to the car (I had to 'trick' him by taking him down a short path that looped around). I feel so much better about him being able to go on decent walks now and get to be a happy dog, and people are so much more positive when the see him in a cart than out walking with his limp (so I don't get all depressed about having to explain his problems).

I know people don't want to see video after video, but it makes me so happy to see him walking. He still toe touches while walking in his cart, but I can think on that another day!

yesterday was cookie baking day, and today is cookie decorating day. So we needed to get out early before it starts raining.

So sweet! My dogs have always loved snow, two years ago when we took Ally, Brooke and Faith, Brooke ate so much snow she almost peed in the car!! We had to pull over really quick when she started circling frantically in the back of the car!

So glad Mr. Gavin is out and about in his new set of wheels! :)

Are you kidding? I just love watching Gavin in his new wheelchair with the air tire wheels! It seems so much easier on him to get around! He just warms my heart!!!
Ever time I see him do that shake it makes me laugh. It is like he feels so good! His mental state seems brighter too! Yes, Gavin the super Sheltie! You are also such a great role model so people can see with a little effort adog can have a wonderful senior life! I am sure with his new wheels he feels more in control and mobile!

Give him a hug and pat for his efforts!

Awwwww. Thanks, Gloria! It has been a VERY long year with no positive anything with regards to Gavin's ability to walk. So I really want to celebrate this! It will probably never lead to anything more, but my boy can go on and enjoy walks again :)

He has always done that shake....especially after being combed out. He still needs encouragement to start walking, and I do have to tug on him a bit at times (I have to get him unstuck, too) but considering that the wheelchair people say dogs often won't use one if they can still walk on their own I feel pretty lucky Gavin has adapted as well as he has.

When Mr Chance was having difficulty walking I had a message therapist come every two weeks. Before the procedure he was stiff and sore. So much so that he did not want to get up to walk. When he would shake only his head and neck would move.

After the proceedure he would shake and you would see him shake from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail and he would bark exuberantly! It was a real joy to see his stiffness relieved!

So when I see Gavin shake his whole body it reminds me of Mr Chance and how he felt better with his mobility!

Gavin is a very tolerant Sheltie and had Mr Chance lasted a bit longer I would have loved to try the wheelchair. As it was his stroller was a he best I could do for him. Severe bone spurs caused his mobility issues.

I am certainly enjoying ever post of Gavin! He is such a trooper and such a sweet soul that deserves every opportunity to be with his mom! With your gentle guidance he is enjoying his mobility outside air and the ability to sniff his surroundings. Something a stroller can’t provide!

Cindy - I can not say better than Gloria :wink2:

Garvin looks so effortless with the new wheels

- It has also changed my attitude to a Dog Wheelchair - Garvin you are my little hero

I loved watching the videos of Gavin walking! Never too many videos!
He seems to get around so effortless...I love how he totally seems to enjoy his walk and even stops to smell!
If we can figure out if Riley's problem is just arthritis something like that might work for him.
You've given Gavin a new lease on life and it warms my heart to see him enjoying life, especially the little things like sniffing on a walk!
