Ellie's in Crisis

OK, I caved in and called my vet and asked if sleeping this much was normal and he said yes. He said if she wasn't bright and alert tomorrow to have her come back in. She gets groomed tomorrow at the vet's, lol! We had an appointment set for today, but due to circumstances beyond our control.......:rolleyes2:, we moved it until tomorrow. The groomer met Ellie while they were both at the vet this monring and Ellie LOVED the groomer! I had a conversation with this groomer last week and told her Ellie's story and asked if she would allow Richard to stay with Ellie while she was groomed and the groomer agreed. I found out this particular groomer doesn't even take new client's, but was touched by Ellie's tory and agreed to take her on as a client. I am grateful that the groomer is allowing Richard is stay with Ellie while she deals with one more stranger. Ellie is used to baths and groomng, but we need a professional with the right equipment to see if we can get her looking a tad bit less goofy and a LOT more clean!
 
That is such good news Lahree! I am sure that she is just plain 'dog tired' as you said, as are you and your husband. I have to say, she is one amazingly strong dog. She has gone through so much in such a short time. She must have a really important purpose here to do. You will have to post some pics of her when she is all groomed. I love the way mine feel when they've been grommed - super, super soft, and they smell so good too! I can just eat them :eek2::winkgrin:
 
OMG Lahree, what an incredible relief!! The first thing I did when I got up this morning was turn on the computer to see if there was an Ellie update. Then I had to go to work so I had my husband monitor it all day for me. I whooped when I got the news that she was home and then had to tell everyone at work the story. This little girl has nine lives for sure, and how lucky that she has you and Richard. I'd certainly bet she's tired after her ordeal, and somewhat weak besides from what she's been through. I'm with you...I wouldn't let her out of my sight either!

I hope you all get some much needed rest and a quiet night. And tell Ellie to give up those cigarettes! :lol:
 
Whoo Hoo!!! Way to beat it Ellie!!! It was the first thing I thought about this morning too...and tried to post about it..but had trouble with the boards until now?

lol...be sure and puppy proof your house just like you would if you baby proofed it from now on ;-).. Ellie is a magnet for the unusual!! SO relieved she will be alright.

PRAYERS HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN ANSWERED, and thank God it was the same answer we all were hoping for ;-0).
 
Forgot to mention that I've been told that Hydrogen Peroxide will also induce vomiting. You might want to ask your vet about that...and how much... in case anything else ever comes up where you want to act so quickly..

Noneeds is right...the vet had me give my 35 lb Sheltie a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide years ago when he got into a dish of Hershey kisses that was on the table to make him vomit. It worked, and pretty quickly too. They said if it didn't work in a few minutes, to give another tablespoon. Then after they throw up, you feed them white bread to absorb the rest of the toxins in the system.

I hope you NEVER EVER need this information though!!!!!!!! :eek2:
 
Yes, hydrogen peroxide will induce vomitting. Last year I had a scare with a dog I was sitting. I thought she might have ate one oleander flower that fell. So I took her to the vet, and they gave her hydrogen peroxide first to induce vimitting, and then they gave the charcoal to absorb any toxins that were left over in the system. Good reminder for us all in case of an emergency.
 
I just started reading this thread (somehow I missed it before). I couldn't help having to skip to the end to see how it worked out.

So glad that she is feeling better! My stomach knots up just thinking about it.
 
I think you may have to change her name to miracle, Ellie is one tough girl. And she is back up and zooming around like nothing happened - amazing.

I guess this is the reason the Sheltie breed standard say they are sturdy little dogs.
