Food Dispensing Toys?

I've never had any luck with treat balls....the boys manage to empty them in about 5 minutes. Smart Shelties!

Though I guess its better than the 30 seconds that they normally eat their kibble! :wink2:
 
I was about to suggest the Kong dispenser, but then saw your price limit. That's out.

I kept thinking about all the toys I got Koji for his NILIF dinners, and y'know what? ALL of them were loud!! Especially when he was pushing it around on the walls and yes, boing boing boing down the stairs.

I wonder if this is plastic: Pyramid Tippy Toy. Looks more challenging than just pushing a ball around.

Also, that last website, it has a lot of different puzzle toys. Some are cheap and yes, the Nina one's aren't. lol.

I use them more for excersising the brain than as dipsensing food. The one busy dog one has the same treat in it for almost a week. I put a mother hubbard little bone in that one- Zak loves to chase that one.
The IQ one is one that Maggie likes she pushs it around with her nose in hopes a treat will fall out. Zak carries it around in his mouth and bats it around the room. They play a fun game of keep away with that one. Zak carries it and Maggie follows, he drops it and she pushes it around and then it starts all over again.

It is hard plastic and, yes, it is noisy. I only allow Marlowe to have it in a confined and padded area because it is quite loud on hardwood. I do like it as it keeps Marlowe occupied for quite a while when I put his meal in it.
 
When we go to church, I stuff two kongs with peanut butter and stick a Mother Hubbard treat in the end. By the time we come home a couple of hours later, the kongs look like they have been through the dishwasher.
 
Daisy had the Omega Paw Tricky Treat Ball and absolutely loved it. This fluorescent-orange ball is big and heavy, but not too noisy, and very sturdily made. Problem: Daisy played with it so much that she actually wore the skin off the top of her muzzle from pushing it around with her nose. I had to take it away from her to allow the sore spot to heal.

This past Christmas, I replaced the Omega Paw with the IQ ball. It is noisier than the Omega ball, but it is lightweight, so it does not create friction on her skin. It's also easy to take apart and clean. I let Daisy play with it two or three times a day, putting in about a tablespoon of her daily kibble ration each time. Her muzzle has healed completely. I guess I'm going to have to give away the Omega Paw, even though it's a good toy, because I don't want Daisy to hurt herself again.
 
Maggie and Zak love their IQ ball. Zak likes to play keep away with it, teases Maggie with it till she chases him. It is so cute.
 
There are 2 types of "Food Dispensing" toys. Easy toys (Walmarts Steggin' Egg") and the more difficult toys (Tug-A-Jug).

My pup tends to give up if things seem too difficult so he doesn't always eat his full meal if I put it in the more difficult toys. The easy toys on the other hand he empties out in no time flat.

Honestly the "Best Food Dispensing Toy" I've used is a empty bottle (Soda bottle, gatorade bottle, ect) which I wash out, remove the label, and then cut a number of holes in the side of various sizes.

Depending on how many holes you cut and how large they are the bottle can be difficult or easy, or somewhere in between.

I like to buy differently shaped ones to keep my dog interested (walmart had some orniment shaped coke bottles for xmas).

The only downside to this is that now when my dog sees a soda bottle he tips it over and claims it as his own, dispite it being full of soda or not.

This is Nike's absolute favorite puzzle toy. I haven't noticed any muzzle wear like Daisy's (poor thing!). He also really enjoys the Atomic Ball, but it is a little louder than the TTB. Nike is also my only dog who can work the Kong Genius, and that one is actually pretty quiet.
