Food Dispensing Toys?

This morning I was bringing Indy his dish and I tripped over him and dumped his entire bowl of kibble over the entire sunroom! It must have spread 10 feet in each direction - under tables, chairs, etc.

I didn't bother pick it up, but laughed my fool head off watching Indy squeeze under all the furniture and sniff out all the loose kibble. He found EVERYONE! And instead of scarfing in 30 seconds...he took him a whole 5 minutes! :lol::lol:

i have Luna the busy buddy squirrel instead of the kong, its quiet and a bit more challenging because it has prongs in the bottom so not a bunch of toys come out the end. I also got her the kong genius toy yesterday (orange one) and a iq ball. she HATES balls?! i don't know what to do. she didn't like the wobbler that i got her, then i tried this iq ball because i thought it would be more challenging than a tricky treat ball because she will have to roll it around but i put it on the ground and she won't go anywhere near it. i think because its unpredictable unlike the non round ones.

does anyone have tips for non rolling ones? the cube or the tug a jug? would that be my best bet???
 
Tug-a-jug is pretty good. Bailey used to give up because she couldn't figure it out, but now she has no issues with it.

The hardest treat dispensing toy that I have is the Kong Genius. It's easy when it's just one kong genius, but when you attach two geniuses, It's much more difficult. Bailey has actually played with it for an hour and there was still a kibble or two left over.
 
Luna is have a hard time with bowling pin looking kong genius. but she is trying which is whats important. :)

ya i put some things on her wishlist of some challenging toys. i looked on amazon they are like 1/4 the price as in store. i feel like a sucka for buying toys in store, especially when i dont know if she is going to like it.

does anyone know a good like "tray" type toy. or have experience with those
 
We have had several, paid a small fortune for them and the shelties were too smart for them, immediately took their noses, slid the doors open, used their feet on levers or popping things out and all the treats were gone in about a minute. They were pretty dissapointing Christmas presents. We are always on the look out for hard ones. We like the tug-a-jug and that blue hard plastic cone shaped thing with a hole on the side near the top, maybe that is what you are talking about? The balls are easy for them too. Everything else we have had is too easy.

Treat dispensing balls are way too easy for shelties!

Sometimes I put a treat in the ball that is impossible to get out. That usually adds an extra 2-3 minutes of play time.
 
The Casino game from Nina Ottosen is fairly challenging - moreso than any other food dispensing toy I've bought.
 
I don't have a recommedation of what to get... but I have one of what NOT to get...

Granted Miko is big for a sheltie and is quite a heavy chewer, but that's ridiculous... it says it's for any size of dog... a lab would be done with it in less than an hour!!! :rolleyes2:

Well apparently my sheltie isn't all that bright... you can see in my post above what he did to a treat dispensing ball. The darn things wouldn't fall out, so he took matters into his own hands! :uhoh:
