Get a tri-colour!

In this area, I don't see much outside that color, all the shelties here are pretty much sable.

This is a good point Precious Sheltie, from what I've read on this forum so far, each area has its "popular colour". Being from Ontario as well, I agree sable is the most common. Thus why Julip stands out around here, blue merle just isn't really seen? I know finding her was very hard (contacted 30 breeders & back in Jan. we had been placed 3rd on 4 waiting lists - for puppies not born til this summer - so still no blue merle guarantee?!)

Any that are around here are probably show dogs. Julip's paws were quite big as a pup, the breeder knew she'd be bigger then 16 inches.

4 people asked us tonight at the dog park - "what breed is your dog?" & 2 at the pet store after. And its always followed by "I didn't know Shelties came in that colour?"
We just get asked SO often, thus why I think she MUST be rare here!? :biggrin2:

But I know in other areas blues (bi or merle) are common, so just depends where you live for sure! :wink2:

I do have to say that have had several sables and 1 tri, my tri seem to be totally different. I think he has the devil in him.

Me too!! My bi-black is almost a tri...he's got purplish brown highlights lol, so I just need a bi blue, and blue Merle to round out the pack. And I think Little Bear has the doggie devil in him also!

When we decided to get another dog we were convinced that we knew exactly what we wanted. We had talked for over a year about our little sable Sheltie. Then the decision to get a puppy. We had first pick....had a little sable chosen. Then....our breeder tells us that she thinks a little tri is the puppy for us (truth be told we were already quite interested in her). So glad we listened....love, love, love our little tri girl. I thought it would be tough to beat our last dog Beau but I have never had a dog like Mystique. She is the perfect balance of "cheek" and "brains".
I am a tri convert....although I can see a little sable addition in the future. I think my dream is to have one of each. :smile2:
 
We have mostly sables but we have a tri and a blue too. I love them all, I liked tris the most at first but now I don't mind, they are all beautiful. Though I do have a soft spot for a shaded sable and I think that's what my puppy will be. Really though, its the personality and the smile that really makes a dog

I was just asked this on our morning walk!
My first - "what's with all that grey? I guess she's old?!"

I said "well actually she's only 5 months! Her colouring is called Blue Merle, like the colouring of an Australian Shepherd, BUT she's a Sheltie".

For response I get "ya, one of those Sheltie-Collies" :rolleyes2:

Oh well, least he (about 60ish) learned all dogs with GREY are not old! :smile2:
