Gypsy's Kidneys

Oh Dawn, I was so sorry to hear about this. I tried to reply to a PM you sent me but I'm not sure I did it correctly. Please write me again if there's nothing in your mailbox.

The Dermatologist had me start Gypsy back on the antibiotics yesterday. I give her Cerenia first thing in the morning and after she has had her afternoon mel I give her the antibiotic. I don't want to load her with all the meds at once. She also gets Enalapril in the evening and Azodyl morning and evening. I am concerned again because yesterday untill this morning at 11:oo she went 20 hours without emptying her bladder and she has not emptied it since than so it has beenover 10 hrs. now and we have been out several times.

I will take her in for fluids tomorrow and discuss doing fluids at home with my vet. I asked him yesterday how I would know and when it would be time to start fluids on a regular basis and he feels we should do them about once a week for now but also felt if we get to the point when she needs them on a regular basis we should let her go. I have read many people opt to keep their pups going with regular fluids so I guess I will have to decide which path to take when the time comes. I will take into consideration how much she has gone through since the age of 6mos.. I don't think in the past 3 1/2 years she has had a day that she has not been sick in one way or another but I want to keep may baby around and will do whatever it takes as long as she is fairly comfortable.

I hope that Gypsy is doing well today. I started regular fluids for Zoe when she started not eating. I did the fluids at home every morning and every evening for two weeks until she became really sick on the last morning. She just looked like she couldn't handle it anymore. It has been two years since we let her go to the bridge. Honestly, I look back and I wish I would have let her go sooner but I was selfish. Now I know I wouldn't do that again, but that's me and you have to decide what is best for you and Gypsy. I hope that you don't have to put her on regular fluids any time soon. Hopefully it's just her allergies and meds that are bugging her and once we get through the spring she will be great! Positive thoughts for you both!

I'm thinking of you and Gypsy. You will do what's best when the time comes. And I hope that time is not too near....

I keep thinking about how Gypsy is doing. I just hope that it is the effects of the antibiotics/allergies which are causing these issues.
Am keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Thinking about you as well.

I managed sub Q fluids for two years with my old cat. For a long time, this was every other day; and I believe daily for the last 6 months. Once I got the hang of it, I found that it was a relaxing / bonding experience for both us.
