Hi from Virginia Beach

Thanks all who have taken the time to respond. I'm taking notes on what to do... I am repeating Puppy 101 after a long time....
Have a great day!

Welcome :smile2:
lots of new puppy parents on here- so lots of advice. My mix Danny was my last puppy (he was born in '91-passed in '04)- had the empty house feeling and adopted an adult mix - Happy who was 5 yr then and is 11 now. to keep Happy company, I adopted Callie- my first sheltie ever who made me love the breed and decide to collect the sheltie rainbow. Callie was also 5 yr when she came to live with us and is now 8. I thought then- adult dogs are the way to go- I'll never do the puppy thing again. but as I thought about a 3rd dog- it would be hard to find an adult rescue that would mesh well with the two that I already have. Then other people started posting their new puppy pix and Sheltieluver had Thanksgiving puppies- one was a sable merle boy and I had to have him so Cranberry came to live with us just a few weeks ago. so much for no more puppies- he's the best. He has adjusted very well but the big dogs are still getting used to the puppy energy.

Hey Marilyn!

See the search button in the blue bar towards the top of this screen? Click on it and a window comes up. You can then type in a search word like puppy...crate...poop chute (LOL)....ears, etc. And then you can search the threads that come up for all useful information. The search tool is invaluable for getting as much information as you can handle on a particular subject. Then...if you still have more questions, well, that is what we are here for :biggrin2:

As far as pictures...in order to upload picture to this forum you need to be a premium member which is $20/year. This helps Kelly with the costs associated with hosting this forum. If you would like to post pictures without becoming a premium member, you can make an account with photobucket www.photobucket.com. They are a free site....and once you upload your pictures there, you can share the photo links with us.

Good luck and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Greetings and Salutations Marilyn! I am sorry to hear about the recent loss of your sheltie baby, but know that your new one will bring you joy and happiness in this time of loss (and many years of new memories and love). Don't feel guilty, there is no accepted mourning time and as long as you are ready for a new personality and new spirit in your puppy then you will be fine.

We lost our Indiana early last year and even though we were going crazy dealing with the loss and without a dog in the house, I felt that we all needed to wait, recover and then be ready to welcome in someone new. I have a young daughter (she is 8 now) and over the past 3 years we have lost 2 of our dogs - both to a long and happy life. I knew that Devyn at her age would be looking to replace these furry family members and would compare them to our Indy and Sammy. I wanted her to know that each animal is different and that is what makes them special. It was the right choice for our family to wait and allow time to make room in Devyn's heart for a new baby ... but you and you alone know when your time is right, and it sounds like it is. You have found your new pup and are ready for her to help fill that emptiness and come home. Which we all here understand.

Pictures are a must ... we eat them up. We recently got Kai'a, our 14 week Sable Sheltie girl, in December and the support I have received from the Forum members is overwhelming. I also haven't had a puppy in 14 years and they have been here for me every step of the way. This is a great forum and a wonderful place to share and converse. I am happy that you found us.

PS I think names are very important, and it was a huge consideration picking Kai'a's. In Hawaiian it means: The peaceful, shadowed sea. (Kai is Hawaiian for Ocean and is viewed as one of the most mystical and powerful entities on earth and Kaya and Kai'a in Farsi and Gaelic is Peace or Peaceful One) So, as Yoda would say, chose wisely. :wink2:

Dani gets special rates, the not cool kids like me have to pay $25.00. Kelly hates me :(

Welcome aboard Marilyn. Sorry for your loss. I too was devastated by our loses, especially with my first; Buttons. I have family near you in Chesapeake.

Chesapeake is our next door neighbor! I guess our weekend snow storm must have given them more snow because the stores were still closed today. We had a two hour delay. Possibility of more snow over the weekend...we haven't had snow in what seems like forever and because I want this little girl here, we may have it two weekends in a row!
Thanks for writing!
