Higher Protein = More Energy?

I mostly learned about the b vitamins being in horses. They sell energy formula supplements made with b vitamins. Also, if you look at a bottle of 5 hour energy, other than caffeine, the other ingredients are high levels of b vitamins.
I did do a search of all of the most common premium dog food brands for phosphorous levels (only looking at adult formulas, no puppy or senior, no low cal/low fat). The highest were EVO turkey and chicken small bites (1.57) and Orijen regional red (1.4-1.6). The lowest were Earthborn adult vantage (.8), Wellness Super5 chicken (.8), and Wellness whitefish and sweet potato (.74).

I've been told by a friend with a dog in kidney failure who has been doing a lot of research that certain sources are pointing to it being too much phosphorous in the dog food that seems to be creating kidney issues...

Phosphorus is what makes the dog actually feel sick. So dogs on a natural kidney diet (not the SD/Purina diets) don't get bones and other high phosphorus foods, but the protein levels are kept about the same.

I took one of my dogs in because he refused to eat a chicken bone. My vet concurred, and pulled his kidney values, which were fine, he was just being stupid.

Not a lot of websites have detailed nutrient analysis, but I was able to find info on Canidae and Natura brands.

Evo Red Meat Small Bites
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) 4.29 mg/kg
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 9.67 mg/kg
Vitamin B3 (Niacin) 63 mg/kg
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) 17 mg/kg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) 4.53 mg/kg
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 69 ug/kg

California Natural Lamb and Rice
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) 4.29 mg/kg
Vitamin B3 (Niacin) 63 mg/kg
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) 17 mg/kg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) 4.53 mg/kg
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 69 ug/kg

Canidae Beef & Fish
Thiamine (B1) 40 mg/kg
Riboflavin (B2) 8.0 mg/kg
Niacin (B3) 66 mg/kg
Pantothenic Acid (B5) 25.0 mg/kg
Pyridoxine (B6) 13.0 mg/kg
B12 0.14 mg/kg (14 ug/kg)

This is Acana Ranchlands:
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) 50 mg/kg
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) 53 mg/kg
Vitamin B3 (niacin) 350 mg/kg
Vitamin B5 (pan.acid) 66 mg/kg
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 43 mg/kg
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) 590 ug/kg

Compared to these brands, Acana's vitamin B's are A LOT more than Canidae, Evo and California Natura. I'm curious to see what TOTW's analysis is. I hope they respond back to me and release that information.

It appears that Bailey (who already has high vitamin B nutrients) may be responding negatively to the high content of vitamin B supplements in Acana.

Interesting! How do you know that Bailey has high vitamin B nutrients? Do you give her supplements?

She had a nutrient blood test done last year when she had a gastrointestinal virus. The vet was trying to figure out why she was still sick. The blood test was done on 12 hour fasting. Everything came back normal except her vitamin B was high. The vet actually told me to stop giving her supplements. I didn't listen and still give her vibrant pets because B vitamins are water soluble. Overdosing won't harm any organs, but of course it will give them more energy. I wonder if this is why Bailey is a more hyper and reactive sheltie.

Ah, I see. Interesting!

Just to be clear, I'm just asking because I'm curious, not criticizing.

This is a very interesting topic. I know the trainer I go to believes that some dogs on high protein diets can have behavioural problems.
