Higher Protein = More Energy?

Really!? That's scary! Thanks, I'll be sure to look that up.

Yup Dani is correct. When researching last week, I came across a bunch of articles that said this:

too much vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) can cause nervous system damage and increased light sensitivity. Too much vitamin B-3 (niacin) can cause skin irritations, liver damage and stomach ulcers. In addition, too high quantities of one B vitamin can also cause other B vitamins to be depleted.

I find it hard to believe that a reputable company like the one that produces Acana and Orijen would put toxic amounts of vitamin B in their pet food.

Then again every dog is different and maybe the company isn't aware of this study. It would be interesting to contact them and see what they have to say.

I'd like to hear what they had to say, too. Maybe just email and say "Just wondering why they're so high compared to other foods"

I just sent them an email. I doubt they are knowingly adding toxic vitamin B levels to their food. My guess is the levels they add are not high enough to be toxic or they have done their own studies that contradict the info I found.

And like you said, every dog is different. Those vitamin B level might be too high for just a fraction of dogs. I've only found a few forums and websites of people complaining about dogs with this issue. It seems like Bailey is in the minority here.

But I am very curious as to why their Vitamin B levels are so high compared to other dog foods.

I will be interested in hearing what they have to say. Zak at times will just lay there with this low little grumble at the slightest noise, I wonder if it is the Acana.

Wow, interesting topic. I cant wait to see what they'll reply.

Though about this:
I switched him to Orijen (even higher protein and probably high B too, since the company that makes Acana also makes Orijen

Surprisingly, that is not true. I checked Orijen Regionl Red that I've started feeding my dog recently and there's only this Vitamín B12 0,22 mg / kg So it's hardly the same for Acana and Orijen. I'm surprised myself that there's such a big difference. I considered these two kibbles to be similar, especially when being made by the same company.

Sorry, my english and understanding numbers sucks...so are you saying it's not so high or?? I mean, I don't think B should be any harm anyways, everyone I asked said it goes away w/ urine....
And also edit: I overlooked some B vitamins in Orijen, because they weren't listed as B, but listed by "names". If that makes sense. So even when Orijen has less of it, it's still got enough. :confused2:

Just if you were interested, I made a little digging and accordance w/ AFFCO these are dog food standards :wink2:

Not saying it makes everything clear, but TBH i checked also the site where was stated the quote you used about vitamins and I was way more scared reading about lack of them and diaseases that it might cause rather than when it's too much. Also couple of ppl agreed that there's nothing to worry about w/ vitamin B. Though, I still can't wait what Champion petfoods will answer.
