Horray for Smudge. Now you can take it one step further, and teach him never to go through a door or gate ahead of you, some dogs will charge right by you. It works wonders, when you are bringing in groceries and you have a lot of dogs. They are taught never to go through a door without being given a command that it's "okay".
This is something we are working on here. My dogs have gone "front-door" crazy of late, and yes, bringing things into the house requires about 6 hands to hold back dogs. Its nuts!
They'll do a sit when I tell them to when the doorbell rings, but will release as soon as my attention is turned away from them to actually open the door.
