How Do You Get Your Sheltie Groomed?

Unless your planning on showing your dog you really don't need a book to groom a Sheltie. Only parts that need trimming for a pet Sheltie are the hocks, the ears and bottom of the feet and around the feet.
I'd invest in good brushes and combs and just go with that. I have a really good Chris Christensen brush and comb and a dematting comb as well as a good greyhound comb with fine and medium tines. I also have a good small greyhound comb with very fine tines to do around the ears.
There's also some YouTube videos to learn how to trim around the ears ( get good trimming scissors as well as a good thinning scissor...you don't need to break the bank but don't get cheap, they won't last)
 
You Tube videos as Piper's Mom suggested are a great idea. Also, your breeder can show you the way to groom a Sheltie...that's the best resource you can find. Go visit and ask for a grooming tutorial. Most are happy to teach people with their puppies.

What does "line brush" mean? I am really a novice at all of this.
 
I have bought a under coat brush and a slicker brush made by Conair from the pet store. So far I found the slicker very useful but the undercoat brush with wide steel teeth useless. After reading a few posts here, I have several questions.

1. Please recommend a pair of scissors for footpad trimming and a clipper for sanitary cut.
2. What’s the use of a greyhound comb or butter comb?
3. Are CC T brush and pin brush used for the same purpose? Which brush do you prefer? How do they differ from a slicker function wise? I saw a few videos where groomers used slickers instead of a pin brush.

I use both the T-Brush and slicker.
 
I have the CC pin brush (16 mm) and i love it but am thinking of getting the T brush later this spring (at a dog show). I think they're the same, just the T brush is a different style of handle. What I like about the CC is they don't scratch the skin (try to run a different brush on your arm, it will scratch you. This can lead to dandruff and irritated skin on your dog), I can do this with my CC and it doesn't leave a mark.
The undercoat brush (is it like a rake? With widely spaced teeth?) is better for when they're losing coat in the spring or when blowing their coat. I find slickers tend to pull the hair out causing a bit of discomfort when brushing. I use a slicker more on the legs and the pin on the body.
For scissors I use a thinning scissor on the ears ( I use one with 47 teeth, don't want anything too chunky) and just a good scissor for the paws (I use a small scissor, not pet but good quality, cheap dulls fast).

Good suggestions; I don't trim the ears, I like the furry ear look. The feet most definitely! I just brush and trim feet

I have the T brush and I like it! I also have a regular pin brush, made by Mars I THINK. I use them both

Thank you. I'm going to get the T brush and a clipper with the 5 in 1 blade because I need #10 for sanitary cut.
