Last month we were quoted $750-$1200 CAD for a cleaning and possibly 2 extractions. It was an inclusive price that included cleaning, scaling, polishing, full dental x-rays, IV fluids, blood work, antibiotics, pre-meds, pain meds, follow-up appointment(s), and a guarantee that I would not pay more than quoted. The dental estimate apointment was free. A few people told me that was on the pricy side but I knew the vet and clinic since I take my boy there for chiro and felt comfortable with them. I was never so relieved for going where I had a price guarantee because after taking x-rays the vet came out to speak with me - instead of the possible 1 or 2 extractions my boy needed 8 teeth out! Turns out all the brushing and the scaling that was done under local anesthetic masked what was going on below the gum lines. So my advice is to make sure you find a vet you trust (my boy was under anesthesia for over an hour) and try to find one that will guarantee the quote. I can't imagine how hard the decision would have been if they came out and told me he needed 8 extractions and the cost would be significantly higher all while having the pressure of knowing my boy was under anesthesia while I decided what to do. Thanks to a great vet I will be eternally thankful that I wasn't put in that position.

So, I assumed that was why it was that bad. Anyway, the vet said he needed a dental after smelling his mouth.
But an unhealthy mouth can affect their heart and kidneys (all that bacteria).
