Thanks so much!
A third good update in a day, I'm on cloud nine right now!
I took Monet to our beginner obedience class today. I went a half hour early, so we could practice our commands and wander around the store. I always get a ton of people who tell me how cute he is and ask to pet him. So I decided to enlist them in his training. I got a lady to give him a piece of chicken, and he actually took it! The second person who asked to pet him was a little more vocal, and it took him a bit to get used to that. But, he eventually took several pieces of chicken from him too. Then, a store clerk gave him a few pieces, and he stood for her to pet him.
It was great!
Then, class was even better. He is now consistently doing sits and downs in Petsmart, even with barking dogs and running children. Even with those distractions, he's starting to settle.
We worked on our recall today, by playing what the trainer calls "puppy ping pong". The trainer and I were in the room, and Monet was loose. One would ask him to come, treat well, and then the other person would call him over. At first, he was all ping and no pong... He would come to me, but not to the trainer. Then, he finally got it, and he was regularly coming to both me and the trainer. It made me beam. Just a month ago, when turned loose in the area, he was trying to jump out as if being in the same room with me and the trainer was going to get him killed. I don't know if you all have seen the petsmart training areas, but they are generally partly solid, with a fiberglass top. If this tells you how high this pup can jump - he was clearing the solid part and hitting the fiberglass. And the fact that 4 weeks into the class, he's actually willing to come to me in a busy place when I ask.
I am so happy with this boy.
The one bad thing... He's urinating an alarming amount. On the walk, he peed about 20 some odd times... And then when we went to petsmart he urinated before we went in, then peed five times inside, then peed again when we came back out, and peed twice when I took him out when I got home. In the class, he urinated twice in the same spot within a minute of each other, after I cleaned the spot. I'm afraid he's getting a UTI... So I'm calling the vet tomorrow. It's kind of frustrating, when I went to have him checked out, I had a fleeting suspicion he may have one, but they told me it was normal. And now I'm pretty sure he does have a UTI. What do you all think?
